A day to remember

By NewHomeBarber

I hadn't had a haircut since an edger shave about 2 1/2 weeks ago and decided I needed a buzz while out running some errands on a day off yesterday.
Instead of going to my barber, however, I decided to do it myself for the first time with one of the new Wahl Baldfader clippers. On my way to the barbershop, I had stopped at Sears for something else and happened to see that they carry these new clippers, so I purchased them.

When I got home, I cut what I have left skin-tight with these clippers. They seemed to get the hair even closer than the barber's edger. (I like having no hair but don't like the irritation I get when shaving my head with a razor, so I just keep it cut off with clippers.)
Then, while having dinner, I got a big surprise. One of my three boys had seen my new clippers and asked if I could give him a haircut, and another one said he liked the idea and asked if I could clip him also.

I had never cut their hair before but was happy to give it a try. We set up in the basement and my oldest teenager _ the one who brought up the subject first _ sat down to have his high-and-tight flattop trimmed. I went to work on the sides and back with the new clippers, removing the one-quarter-inch growth since his last cut when he accompanied me the last time I had ben to the barbershop. I was a little nervous about leveling off the top but was ablt fo follow some instructions I found, and he was pleased with the result of the outcome.

The next cut was easy. My middle-aged son, who usually wears a short crewcut during the swimming season and a little longer ivy-league cut when it is done, was going to have to shave his head for a swimming meet coming up the weekend after next, so he decided to have me go ahead and do it for him. It took just a few minutes to run the clippers over his head, removing all of his hair.I offered to finish the job with my Mach3 and lather, but he decided the clipper shave was good enough until the meet.

After finishing these two cuts, I decided that my youngest son, whose hair was starting to fall over his ears, eyebrows and collar, was too shaggy and needed to look more like his brothers. I used tbe clippers to give him whitewalls high up the sides and back and then blended it into hair that I left barely long enough to comb over on top. He objected at first, but he ended up liking looking more like his older brothers.

My investment in the clippers has already paid off _ they cost about $28 and I would have spent $48 in the barbershop for four haircuts _ and my teenagers have already talked about letting me cut their hair again. The oldest even said he'd clip my head next time, and he talked about maybe cutting the hair of a couple of his friends who keep it real short like his
