I started getting a flattop a couple of
years ago, and got some really great haircuts from a barber who decided to
retire a couple of months later. Since then, I've found a couple of barbers
who I'd trust to do a decent flattop, and have pretty much stuck with them.
I like the boxy look, though, and none of them really could get it quite
right. Last December, I decided to try a shop I'd heard about, even though
it was a little out of my way. I wasn't disappointed - the barber did a nice
flattop, and I went back a couple weeks later. I don't know if he'd mistaken
me for somebody else, or just thought that I wanted it a lot shorter since I
was back after only two weeks.
The first hint I got that he wasn't giving me
my 'usual' haircut was when I felt the clippers going WAY up over the crown,
then WAY up the sides! I wound up with a h&t flattop, with the back and
sides one step away from shaved - I'm pretty sure he used an edger on them,
because they looked and felt like sandpaper when he'd finished. When he
turned me around to see the finished cut, I wanted to cry. All I could do
was pay him and leave... I just wanted to hide somewhere, I hated how it
looked that much. And right before Christmas, too!
