MY
FIRST BUZZ
by Vlad
|
I'm living in Transsylvania. You know that part
of Romania from the Dracula stories (And Dracula really existed, but
that's another question). Once, when I was a boy of 7 or 8 years, my aunt,
who was living in a small village invited me to spend my vacation in the
countrysite. That was great! I thought of a lot of animals, may be I could
get new friends. I couldn't await the day to come to my aunt's village. As
both of my parents were working I travelled alone first by train and then
by bus.
I arrived at noon and my aunt was waiting for me at the busstop.
Well, after a very good dinner, my aunt said, that she would present me to
Bogdan, who - as she said - was a quite nice boy. His father was the
village's barber. We crossed the street and came to Bogdan's house. He was
at home and received us with a kind smiling. Bogdan was really a nice and
cute boy, but the only thing I noticed immediately, that he was shorn. I
liked his look very much, but I didn't dare to ask him why he had cut of
all his hair. I spent the whole afternoon at him, and there were comming
even other boys from the village. All of them were shorn, one or to even
shaved with the razor.
The next day was a big fair in the village with peasants from the
suroundings. My aunt took me there and I looked on the marvellous
peppercakes, which I really liked. They had the shape of hearts, houses or
animals. My aunt decided to buy for me a big heartshaped peppercake, when
I suddenly heard a voice:
- Hi Vlad, what are you doing here?
I stared at the boy and looked at a freshly shaved guy.
- Don't you recognize me? I'm your schoolmate Radu. Then he smiled,
and said:
- Well, I've a new look. Cool, isnt't it?
I just nodded and I rememberd that Radu always had quite long
curled black hair. And now he was bald! This time I dared to ask him, why
he had cut of his wonderful hair. He answered that all the boys in the
neighbour-village, where he spent his hollydays at his grandmother are
during hollydays buzzed. Now I understood why all the boys I met the day
before had no hair.
I few days later my aunt said, that I had to go to the barber, as
my hair was a little too long. I looked at the mirror and I had to agree.
It could be just a little shorter, not too much, but anyhow the barber
could shorten it a bit.
So next day I decided to go to Bogdan`s father to have a trim. I
was thinking, that it would be best in the morning, when the grownups are
at work, so I wouldn't loose too much tiime by trimming my hair.
But entering the barbershop I saw just five or six boys were
waiting and a boy was sitting in the chair and beeing buzzed by Bogdan's
father with some old mechanical clippers. The clippers run over the boys
head and within several minutes he was shorn completely. I just liked this
scene.
Then a little boy beeing about 5-6 years climbed on the chair.
Without any word the barber started with his clippers at the left site.
The clippers run up to the top of the boy's head, then started again a
little more back, untill the top and so on, untull the back of the boy's
head was bald! Then the barber began to cut the frontsite of the boy and
finished soon to crop the boy.
The next boy whose turn it was had shoulder long hair.
- Yeeh, Emil, the barber said to the boy. I haven't seen you for a
long time. You haven't been at least two years in my shop. The boy, he was
about 15 or 16 years old, nodded.
- I've been at school in the town, he added.
- Well, and now you'll get your normal haircut, the barber said,
putting a white cape round his neck. OK. I'll start in front of your head.
It's to difficult to begin with the sites, you've too long hair. And the
clippers started running from the middle of the forehead back. Long
strands of hair were falling down on the floor. The boys sat there with
locked eyes. He really enjoyed his buzzing. It took quite a long time to
cut all the hair off (for me it was to short, because I just followed
extremely excited the haircutting scene).
- Ready, said the barber, when the boy was bald.
- No, shave my head with the razor, please, the boy said.
- OK, the barber answered boared, took a bowl with water and razor
soap and started to make some foam. When he considered that it was enough
foam for the boy's head he started to leather it very slowly. Then he took
a straight razor and started shaving. After some minutes the boy was
looking quite amusing: his fornmer big head (because of his long hair) was
now little and over and over with shaving foam. Well, after a couple of
minutes the boy was ready. But the barber started again to leather the boy
and started shave him in the opposite direction, against the stroke. When
he was ready he asked:
- Some oil?
- Yes please, the boy replied and the barber rubbed the boy's head
with some oil in order to get the head shiny.
After that the boy had a look in the mirror, running his fingers
over his smooth, bald head he said:
- Wow, great, I like this. I was waiting for two years to be
shaved.
The boy really looked very cute and nice.
Then there were two boy more in front of me, both were buzzed to
zero crop.
I thought by myself: Great, but never for me!
At last it was my turn. I sat in the chair waiting to get the cape
around my nack. I explained the barber how to cut me. I wanted to have my
hair just a little trimmed. The barber nodded as if he had understood
perfectly.
He started with the clippers on my left site, but suddenly I was
aware that he didn't stop! The clippers were running to the middle of my
head!
- What are you doing, a asked very scared the barber.
- You'll get a buzz as all the other boys, he explained me and
smiled. Why should you look otherwise, only for the fact that you are from
the town? he said, running with the clippers over my head. It didn't last
very long and I was bald! What a look! I was so excited that I started
shivering.
-You're welcome, the barber said, when I thanked him for the buzz
and payed for it.
I just was wondering what my aunt would say seeing me bald. But she
didn't even notice my new look, It was quite normal for her, that a boy
has to be bald in the summer!
During the winter time I always was thinking on that memorable day
and I decided myself not to go any longer to the barber in spite of the
protests of my parents.
I wrote my aunt a letter asking her to invite me again to spent a
part of my vacantion at her. She agreed of course and I coulnd't wait for
the first vacation day.
The first thing i did, when I arrived at the village, after seeing
my aunt I was running to Bogdans father. I was lucky. Ther wasn't any
client and the barber was sitting and reading a newspaper.
-Hi, he said. A buzz?, he asked.
-No. Please shave my head with the razor I asnwered.
- Well I knew that you'll like it to be bald, he answered.
