Russ and Chip In The Park - Part Six by Russ

Jeff tilted Jack's head forward and as he started buzzing away at the back of Jack's head the hair started flying to the ground. Dave commented, I never realized how long Jack's hair was. Is mine that long? I said it seems so, but though just as shaggy, yours is a much neater look so you probably think it's shorter. As Jeff buzzed away the sides of Jack's hair he asked how short the top should be? At this point, Jack opened his eyes and looking at all the sandy brown hair on the ground asked if anything was left on his head? Jeff said not to worry, if you're nervous, I can leave the top a little longer and still create a good boxed and squared flattop for you. Russ, Jeff continued, watch carefully how I do the top, especially squaring out the edges so you can do mine after I finish up on Jack. In a little while Jack sported one of the best squared and boxed flattops I had ever seen. I couldn't resist reaching out to ruffle it. Interesting, I said, your hair is bristly when cut like this but I recall Jeff's flattop being soft to the touch. Chip said, no two guys have the same texture hair, unless of course, they copy your smooth topped head like I did. Chip grinned from ear to ear as he reached over and rubbed my head.

Chip said, Russ, do you want to warm up buzzing my fringe before you do Jeff's flattop? Sure, have a seat I said as I put the #1 guard on the clippers. How about we buzz the fringe real short this time? Chip replied OK and I soon sent a pile of white blond hair to the ground. Chip started rubbing his head all over before I could and he said, guys, you gotta feel this. We proceeded to give Chip a series of head rubs that made him just sit there and smile wider than his previous grin.

Jeff was next and while I was clipping away, Dave asked what a horseshoe and landing strip was. I put down the clippers and with a finger on Jeff's head, outlined a landing strip and described a horseshoe as I motioned where it would be. You want to try it Dave, I asked. He answered with a firm no as Jeff said, how about you finish up my flattop? Once I finished Jeff, I ruffled his hair and said not as good a ruffle as I used to give Chip, but a good ruffle nonetheless and soft in contrast to Jack's bristly feel. Jack rubbed his own head while rubbing Jeff's and commented on the big difference in how each felt. Soon all of us were rubbing and comparing the two of them.

So, I said, this leaves Dave as the only one among us with no new haircut, or as in my case, the promise to grow out what little hair I had in my fringe. Chip and Jack grabbed Dave's arms and sat him down as Jeff said, what'll it be? I suggested just a trim of the sides and back leaving the top to be the only one of us left with long hair on top perfect for ruffling. No, insisted Dave, I like the shaggy look and want to keep it. OK I said but you'll have to agree to be here often so we can all ruffle that shaggy black hair of yours. Looking at the rest of us, you're the only one with long hair anymore. Dave agreed saying he'd go along with it only if we continued to allow each others' head rubs.

So we parted ways for the day, of course giving each other what would become our ritualistic head rubs and hair ruffles.

AND thus the RUB 'N' RUFFLE CLUB was born.
