New Life in Newtown - Chapter 8 by Wulf

New Life in Newtown - Chapter 8

It has been 3 months since the barbershop closed and we relocated to Newtown. Dad has never stopped smiling. He did get a bit lazy I guess you could say at one point, because he named his new shop â€" Dad’s Barbershop. His shop is always packed and busy. It seems in this town; people greatly appreciated his skills. His customers act like they have known him for years. He got so busy in fact that even for a small town he decided to get another barber in his shop. So Dad put out the word over the internet. He only wanted the best.

One night at dinner he shared with me that he got a reply on his search he was hopeful of. "I think I may have found the new barber I have been looking for. I found him through an ad I placed on a website. He is set to arrive in 2 days. I am going to give him a week in the shop to see how good he is, but also to see how the locals react to him. He is even going to be renting a room here at the inn for his stay."

"I think I know who it might be, Dad. Would his name be Greg?"

"Yes, that is him. He is young, but he has a fetish for this like you do I think. He started with clippers at 13 and has never looked back."

Two days later I was working at the pub. Dad was at the bar having a beer on his day off, when this tall handsome man walked in. He was well over 6 feet tall with piercing green eyes. He had a well-groomed scruffy beard, broad shoulders and looked like he knew his way around a gym.

"Welcome to the Trunk and Keg. I am Trent and what can I get for you?"

"Well a beer would be nice and also I am checking into the inn. I have a reservation."

"Well come sit down and relax. I am the owner Trent and this is my Dad. So what brings you to our fair, but small town?"

He sat down and took a big swig off of his beer and started talking. "Damn that’s good. I needed that. I actually have a job interview tomorrow."

Dad quickly popped into the chat. "So tell me young man. What job has brought you here?"

"My name is Greg. I have an interview tomorrow to be a barber. I found the ad online and thought it was just what I needed. I have been giving haircuts since I was 13. Puberty was good to me I guess you can say. First it was just giving buzz cuts and head shaves to friends, but before long the family garage turned into a make shift barbershop. Every weekend I had the place filled with people waiting. I only charged $5. I remember one year the football team was playing in the state finals â€" the first time ever. So the entire team, players and coaches, came down for full head shaves. It was pure chaos for hours, but so much fun. I would shave them down with clippers and my Dad would grab shaving cream and a razor to finish them off."

"It sounds like something you were meant to do."

"I always have thought so. Please excuse me for saying so, but I love your bald heads."

"I guess you can say it runs in the family." I said as I refilled his beer.

"Hey son, why don’t you get Marie to cover the bar while you get this young man checked in. I am sure he would like to relax after his journey."

"Sounds like a great idea." I said as I got Marie from the back to cover the bar while Dad and I escorted him to the check-in counter.
