Tom's Cut by Eboy999
We weren't friends. Not really.
We knew each other in the way that, in a mid-sized college town with a limited gay scene, gay people know each other. We went to the same bars. We knew the same people. We were invited to the same parties. We talked sometimes, about nothing in particular. I thought about him, though. A lot more than I should have. I couldn't help it. He was amazing looking. Mid twenties, tall, broad shouldered. And his hair. Gorgeous, glossy dark wavy hair that reached his shoulders in the back and covered most of his ears. Bangs that were too long and flopped in his bright blue eyes now and then.
I always told myself that, as a barber, this, this was . . . normal. My responsibility, even, to notice guys who had hair in need of cutting. That's what I told myself, anyway.
And Tom. He hangs around where my shop is. A lot. And he watches me. He pretends he's doing anything other than watching me, but I know he is. I know what he wants. I'm not dumb. He's not the first guy to do this. When I notice him lingering outside, when I try to meet his gaze, he blushes and hurries away.
The barber pole outside my shop had been broken for weeks, its red and white stripes frozen mid-spin. Tom stares at it every time he passes, imagining the slow, hypnotic swirl it should have had . . . just like the way his stomach twisted whenever he caught his reflection in a mirror. He thinks I don't notice him looking. But I do.
"You ever think about cutting it?" I asked him one night at the bar, reaching out without thinking to tug lightly at the dark waves that brushed his shoulders. He stiffened, then laughed, low and uneven.
"More than you'd guess." His fingers drummed against his beer bottle, condensation slick under his touch. "It's stupid."
I shrugged, trying to be nonchalant. "It's not stupid. People have weird things about their hair. My ex used to lose his mind if anyone touched his bangs."
Tom's throat worked as he swallowed. He leaned in, voice dropping to something private despite the noise around us. "What if it's not just about the hair?"
The neon above the pool table flickered, casting jagged light across Tom's face as he exhaled sharply through his nose. His knee bounced under the table - quick, nervous. "You ever heard of something called a hair fetish?" The words came out rushed, like he'd been holding them in too long.
I rolled my bottle between my palms, watching the liquid slosh. I chose my next words very carefully. "Like getting off on touching it? Or . . ."
"The cutting." His voice cracked. He looked down, fingers twisting in his own hair like he was punishing himself for saying it. "The sound of scissors. And clippers. The tug. The ... f***, the FALL of it." His Adam's apple bobbed. "I've never told anyone that."
The bartender shouted last call. Around us, stools screeched against tile as people stood. I waited until the noise died down. "You want me to do it." It wasn't a question.
Tom's laugh was shaky. "Yeah. Yeah, I do." He rubbed his thumb along his lower lip, smearing condensation from his bottle. "I've watched you at the shop. The way you handle shears . . . like you're not even thinking. Just know." He swallowed. "And I've thought about you. A lot."
I suddenly felt like the luckiest son of a bitch in the world.
The apartment smelled like old wood and the citrus cleaner Tom used on his floors. He'd left the lights dim. Just a single lamp by the armchair he'd dragged into the center of the room. Scissors gleamed on the coffee table beside a pair of clippers still in their box, the plastic wrap crinkling when I picked them up. "You were planning for this." Again, not a question. A statement of fact.
Tom stood by the window, backlit by streetlights, fingers working nervously through his own hair. "You don't have to," he said, even as he pulled his shirt over his head in one smooth motion. His chest rose and fell faster than normal. "I know it's weird."
"It's not weird." I tested the shears - a clean snick in the quiet. "It's just . . well, let's just say it's not the first time I've encountered someone with your . . interests. They happen to be my interests too. I didn't become a barber by accident."
He exhaled through his nose and stepped forward, bare feet whispering against the floorboards. The lamp caught the sweat at the hollow of his throat. "How do you want me?"
I nodded to the chair. "Sit. Backwards."
Tom straddled the chair like he was mounting something far more intimate, his thighs gripping the leather with a tension that made my fingers twitch around the shears. The lamp cast his shadow long against the far wall - broad shoulders, the dip of his spine, the way his breath hitched when I let the cold metal of the scissors graze the back of his neck.
"Tell me if it's too much," I murmured, gathering a thick handful of his hair at the crown. His exhale shuddered through him, fingers white-knuckling the chair's edge. The first cut was slow, deliberate - the snick of the blades louder than any gasp Tom tried to stifle. Dark strands rained down onto his bare shoulders, catching in the sweat at the small of his back. His hips jerked forward against the chair.
"F***," he choked, head tipping back as I dragged the shears through another section, letting the hair slide free with agonizing slowness. His thighs trembled. "I didn't . . .Christ . . . I didn't know it would feel like this."
I hummed, working methodically now, shortening the layers inch by inch, the rhythm of the scissors syncing with the ragged rise of Tom's chest. His cock was hard where it pressed against the chair - impossible to ignore, but it was the way his breath stuttered every time I tugged that made my own pulse jump. The more I took from him, the more he unraveled, until his forehead rested against the chair back, his voice wrecked.
"Please," he gasped, when I paused to run my fingers through what was left - still thick, but shorn now to the nape. His whole body arched when I palmed the clippers, the buzz of them tearing a moan from his throat before I'd even touched skin. "Please, please"
The clippers hovered just above his neck, close enough for the vibration to ripple through his skin like a second heartbeat. Tom whimpered - a sound I'd never heard from him before, high and desperate - and pressed back into the touch before I'd even made contact. His fingers scrabbled at the chair's edge like he was trying to anchor himself.
"Easy," I murmured, but the warning was for myself as much as him. The first pass of the clippers left a stark trail of dark bristles and pale skin in its wake, dark, glossy locks tumbling onto bare shoulders. Tom's whole body jerked, a punched-out groan escaping him as his hips rutted helplessly against the chair. The sound of the blades was obscenely loud in the quiet room, each buzz dragging another broken noise from his throat.
I didn't stop. Couldn't. Not when his breath came in ragged gasps, not when his thighs trembled so violently I thought he might collapse. The clippers carved away at the vast forest of dark silk, revealing the sharp angle of his jawline, the vulnerable curve behind his ears. Tom's hands flew up to clutch at my wrists - not to pull me away, but to grind the vibration harder against his skull. His head lolled back, exposing the column of his throat where sweat glistened.
"Look at you," I breathed, turning his chin toward the mirror propped against the wall. His pupils were blown wide, lips parted around uneven gasps. The transformation was stark - the shorn sides, the tousled top I'd left longer, the way his neck looked endlessly kissable now that it wasn't hidden. Tom made a wounded noise at the sight, his cock twitching visibly against the leather.
His hands found mine again, guiding the clippers lower down the nape, along his hairline until they stuttered over a particularly sensitive spot that had him crying out. The vibration seemed to ricochet through him, his back arching as he came untouched, stripes of white painting the chair between his thighs. The clippers clattered to the floor as his grip went slack, his whole body shuddering through the aftershocks.
Tom's chest heaved as he slumped forward, forehead pressing into the back of the chair. His breath came in ragged gulps, fingers still twitching where they'd dug into the leather. I ran a palm over the freshly shorn sides of his head, feeling the rasp of stubble against my skin. He shuddered, a full-body tremor that had nothing to do with the chill in the room.
"Christ," he rasped, voice wrecked. His shoulders flexed as he pushed himself upright, turning to face me with a dazed expression. The lamp caught the sharp angles of his face now no longer softened by the weight of his hair, and the way his eyelashes fluttered when my thumb brushed his cheekbone. "That was" He swallowed hard, Adam's apple bobbing. "I didn't know it could feel like that."
I grinned, flicking a stray clump of hair from his shoulder. "You're welcome."
He barked out a laugh, then winced as his abs contracted. His cock was still half-hard against his thigh, glistening where he'd come untouched. The sight sent a slow curl of heat through my gut. Tom noticed where I was looking and flushed. Not with embarrassment, but something darker, hungrier. His tongue darted out to wet his lips.
"Think you missed a spot," he murmured, tilting his head to expose the patch behind his ear where the clippers had skipped. His pulse jumped under my fingertips when I touched it.
I didn't reach for the clippers. Instead, I leaned in, my breath warming the sensitive skin of his neck. The air in the room felt thick, heavy with the scent of cut hair and the lingering ozone of the machine. I let my lips graze that missed spot, a ghost of a touch that made Tom's entire frame shudder. He let out a sound . . . half-sob, half-sigh . . .and his eyes drifted shut, his head tilting further to give me better access.
"You're a menace," he whispered, though he was leaning into me, his broad chest expanding as he took a deep, shaky breath.
I pulled back just enough to look at him, really look at him. Without the curtain of dark waves to hide behind, Tom looked raw. The haircut had stripped away more than just the hair it had peeled back the reserve he'd carried for years. He looked younger, more open, and devastatingly handsome with the sharp line of his jaw finally on full display. He watched me with an intensity that made my own heart hammer against my ribs, his gaze dropping to my mouth and then back up to my eyes.
"I've spent so long imagining this," he murmured, his voice returning to that low, resonant rumble. "The way you looked at me from the shop window... I used to wonder if you could tell. If you could see it on me."
"See what?" I asked, pretending that I didn't know the answer.
"That I was starving for it," Tom said, his voice barely above a whisper. "That every time I watched you cutting off a hot guy's hair or even just adjusting the cape, I was practically vibrating out of my skin. I felt like you were playing with a live wire."
He reached out, his large hand cupping the back of my neck and pulling me closer. The friction of his palm against my skin was electric, a grounding contrast to the floating, ethereal haze that had settled over the room. He didn't kiss me yet he just breathed me in, his forehead resting against mine. I could feel the heat radiating off his bare chest, the slow, rhythmic thud of his heart beginning to synchronize with mine.
I shifted my weight, my thigh brushing against the leather of the chair he was still perched on. The sight of him - half-shorn, glistening with sweat, and completely undone - was more intoxicating than any drink we'd shared at the bar. I let my hand slide down from his cheek, tracing the line of his throat and letting my fingertips graze the coarse, prickly texture of the buzzed hair at the base of his skull. He let out a low, guttural hum, his eyes fluttering shut at the sensation.
"You're shaking," he noted, a small, knowing smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"I'm not the only one," I countered, glancing down at the way his fingers were still gripping the edges of the armchair, his knuckles white.
Tom let out a breath that was almost a laugh, his grip finally loosening on the chair. He shifted, the leather creaking under his weight as he slid off the seat and stood fully before me. Up close, the contrast was even more striking he was a mountain of a man, smoothly muscled and imposing, yet he looked completely pliable in my hands. He didn't move away, though. Instead, he stepped into my space, the heat from his bare skin acting like a magnet, drawing me in until the tips of our chests were nearly brushing.
"I feel... light," he whispered, his hand drifting up to touch the buzzed side of his head. He rubbed the stubble, a look of genuine wonder crossing his face. "Like I can actually breathe for the first time in years."
I reached up, mirroring his movement, and ran my palm over the velvet texture of his fade. The physical sensation was addictive - the silk of the longer hair, transitioning into velvet and then to roughness where the bristles met the sensitive newly exposed skin of his scalp. I could feel the lingering tension in his neck, the way he leaned into my touch with a desperation that felt earned. All that time pretending to be the effortless, envied man with the perfect hair had clearly been a performance, a beautiful mask that he had finally let me strip away.
His gaze dropped to my lips, and the air between us seemed to thicken, vibrating with the same intensity as the clippers had minutes before. There was no more hesitation, no more nervous laughter or deflected glances. He reached out, his fingers curling around my waist and pulling me flush against him. The contact was sudden and jarringly hot, his skin slick and smelling faintly of the citrus cleaner and the raw, masculine scent of arousal.
"Kiss me," he commanded, though it sounded more like a plea.
I didn't make him wait. I closed the distance, my mouth meeting his in a collision that felt less like a first kiss and more like a long-overdue resolution. Tom groaned into the kiss, a deep, vibrating sound that echoed in his chest, and his arms wrapped around me with a sudden, crushing intensity. He tasted of the beer from earlier and something uniquely him - warm, salt-sweet, and desperate. He kissed me with a hunger that mirrored the way he'd approached the haircut, as if he were trying to consume the very air between us.
His hands moved with a restless energy, sliding from my waist to the small of my back, pulling me so tight against him that I could feel the heavy, rhythmic thrum of his heart. I could feel the remaining shock of hair on the top of his head brushing against my forehead as he tilted his head, deepening the kiss, his tongue tracing the line of my lower lip with a slow, deliberate pressure. It was an overwhelming physical presence, the sheer scale of him pressing me back toward the armchair.
"Wait," he gasped, breaking the kiss just long enough to catch his breath, though he didn't pull away. His eyes were dark, searching mine, his pupils still dilated from the rush of his climax. "The clippers... they're still on the floor."
I glanced down at the plastic casing and the detached guard lying amidst the dark carpet of shorn hair. The sight of the wreckage - the remnants of the trademark look he'd maintained for a decade - seemed to trigger something in him. He stepped back just an inch, his gaze sliding over my shoulder to the mirror. He didn't look at the hair he looked at me.
"Do it again," he whispered, his voice a low, rough command. "The back. Higher. Take it all the way down."
I knelt to retrieve the clippers, the plastic casing still warm from the motor. When I stood back up, Tom was already moving, stepping back toward the chair with a focused, almost predatory intent. He didn't sit this time he stood with his legs braced, his chest heaving, watching me in the mirror as if he were watching a slow-motion crash.
"Everything," he murmured, his voice dropping an octave. "Don't leave a single strand where it doesn't belong."
I stepped behind him, the hum of the clippers filling the small room once more. The sound seemed to act as a trigger the moment the vibration started, Tom's shoulders flared, and he let out a sharp, jagged exhale. I started at the base of his neck, pushing the blades upward with a slow, steady pressure. I didn't just trim I carved, moving the clippers in long, sweeping arcs that stripped the remaining bulk from the sides. The hair fell in thick, dark curtains, layering over his collarbones and sliding down his muscular chest.
Tom's head tilted forward, his chin pressing against his sternum as he surrendered to the sensation. Every time the metal guard grazed the sensitive skin behind his ear, he made a sounda low, guttural vibration that seemed to start in his toes and echo through his entire frame. He was leaning into me now, his broad back brushing against my chest, the heat of him radiating through my clothes.
"You're so beautiful like this," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the buzz. "So exposed."
Tom let out a sound that was barely human - a strangled, high-pitched keen that vibrated in the back of his throat. He wasn't just enjoying the cut he was dissolving into it. I paused for a moment to fit a guard on the clippers. So I wouldn't get too carried away. Because I could feel myself getting to the brink of a place I couldn't control. Then I kept going. I pushed the clippers higher, stripping the hair away from the crown of his head and leaving his scalp covered in a pelt of dark velvet, shimmering under the lamp, Tom's knees buckled slightly. He didn't fall, but he sagged, his massive frame leaning back into me, his weight heavy and trusting.
"Don't stop," he choked out, his voice sounding like it had been dragged over gravel. "Please, just... keep going."
I shifted my grip, moving the clippers with a slow, agonizing precision. I wanted to savor the way his skin jumped under the vibration, the way his muscles coiled and snapped like over-wound springs. I followed the curve of his skull, the blades humming against the bone, clearing the remaining sections of longer hair until the mirror showed a man transformed. He looked raw, stripped of his armor, his masculinity shifted from the curated perfection of his trademark hair to something more primal, more visceral.
The room was silent except for the mechanical drone of the clippers and the ragged, rhythmic sobbing of Tom's breath. He was shaking now, a fine tremor that started in his hands and radiated through his chest. As the final remnants of the longer top fell away, leaving him nearly bald and glistening with sweat, Tom let out a long, shuddering moan that ended in a gasp. His head fell back against my shoulder, his eyes rolling back, his entire body going momentarily slack.
I switched off the clippers. The silence that rushed back into the room was deafening, heavy with the scent of warm skin and fallen hair.
Tom stayed like that for a long minute, draped across me like a fallen monument. His skin was hot, dampened by a sheen of sweat that made the newly shorn expanse of his scalp glow under the lamp. He didn't move to pull away instead, he let out a slow, rattling sigh that vibrated against my collarbone. The transformation was complete. The man who had walked into the room with the confidence of a curated icon was gone, replaced by someone stripped bare and shivering with a pleasure so intense it looked like pain.
"Look at me," I whispered, my voice sounding foreign in the sudden quiet.
He shifted, his head rolling slowly to the side to meet my gaze. His eyes were glazed, the pupils still blown wide, making his dark irises look like narrow rings of amber. He looked dazed, almost concussed by the sensory overload. He didn't look at the mirror this time. He looked at me, and the expression there was one of absolute, terrifying devotion. He looked like he had just been seen for the first time in his entire life.
"You did it," he rasped, his voice barely a thread of sound. He reached up, his large hand trembling as he felt the velvet stubble at the crown of his head. He closed his eyes, a small, shuddering breath escaping him. "God, I can feel the air. I can feel... everything."
The vulnerability of the moment hit me harder than I expected. He was so physically imposing - the broad chest, the thickness of his arms - yet he looked so small in his openness. I felt a sudden, overwhelming urge to protect this version of him, the one who didn't have to perform. I leaned in, pressing a slow, lingering kiss to the top of his head, my lips grazing the prickly surface of his new scalp. Tom let out a broken whimper, his body arching instinctively toward the touch.
"I can't believe I waited this long," he murmured, his voice barely a ghost of a sound. He didn't pull away from the kiss instead, he leaned his weight back into me, his head resting in the crook of my shoulder. The raw, prickly texture of the back of his scalp against my lips felt like a secret we were sharing, a tactile truth that bypassed everything we'd ever told each other.
He shifted, his muscles rippling as he turned in my arms to face me. The lamp cast a harsh, honest light over him - his chest still heaving, his skin flushed, and that newly shorn head making his features look sculpted, almost classical. He looked at the floor, where the dark, heavy remains of his hair lay like a discarded cloak, and then back at me. There was no regret in his eyes, only a profound, shimmering clarity.
"You're staring," he whispered, a small, genuine smile breaking through the daze.
"It suits you," I replied, my hand sliding up to cup the back of his neck. The skin there was warm and velvet-soft, the clipper-burn giving him a flush of pink that matched the heat in his cheeks. "The sharpness of it. It makes you look... kind of dangerous."
Tom let out a low, rumbling laugh that vibrated through both of us. He stepped closer, his broad chest pressing against mine, his height forcing me to tilt my head back. The intensity had shifted the frantic, desperate energy of the fetish had settled into something deeper, a quiet, simmering intimacy. He reached out, his thumb tracing the line of my jaw, his touch light and tentative, as if he were afraid I might vanish now that the ritual was over.
"My turn," Tom whispered, the words vibrating against my skin.
He didn't move quickly he moved with a slow, heavy deliberation, as if he were still navigating the afterglow of a dream. He knew the scale of what had just happened - the way I had dismantled his identity and rebuilt it into something raw and electric - and he knew that no simple act could mirror that specific, psychic surrender. But as he stepped back, his eyes swept over me with a hunger that was entirely different from the desperation of the haircut. It wasn't about the shears anymore it was about the man holding them.
He guided me back toward the armchair, his large hands firm on my shoulders. With a gentle but insistent pressure, he urged me to sit, then sank to his knees between my legs. The position was an admission, a sudden reversal of power that made my breath catch. Tom looked up at me, his newly shorn scalp glistening under the lamp, his expression one of absolute focus. He reached out to undo my belt, his movements steady now, his fingers grazing my stomach with a heat that made my muscles coil.
"I can't give you what you just gave me," he murmured, his voice a low, resonant thrum. "But I can try to get close."
When he finally freed me from my trousers, his gaze lingered on me with an intensity that felt like a physical weight. He didn't rush. He spent a long moment just breathing me in, his warm breath ghosting over my skin, before he leaned forward to take me into his mouth. The sensation was a shock - the sudden, wet heat and the rhythmic, expert suction of his tongue. Tom worked with a focused devotion, his large hands sliding up to grip my thighs, his fingers digging into my skin to anchor himself as he drove a low, guttural moan deep in his throat.
He moved with a slow, deliberate rhythm, his tongue swirling around the head of my cock with a precision that mirrored the way I had handled the clippers. Every slide of his lips felt like a question he was asking and answering all at once. I reached down to run my fingers through the velvet stubble of his head, the tactile contrast of his scalp and the wet warmth of his mouth sending spikes of electricity through my spine. Tom groaned against me, his eyes half-closed, his nostrils flaring as he tasted me, his entire focus narrowed down to the point of my pleasure.
As the pressure built, Tom accelerated, his hands sliding up to clutch my hips, pulling me harder against his mouth. He was relentless, his tongue flicking and pulsing, his breath coming in ragged, hot bursts against my skin. I could feel the tension in his broad shoulders, the way his muscles rippled beneath the surface of his skin as he poured every ounce of his gratitude into the act. He wanted to erase the distance between us, to pay back the debt of the pleasure he'd felt, his movements becoming more urgent, more desperate.
I let out a choked sound, my fingers tightening in his short hair, and Tom responded by intensifying the suction, his tongue creating a vacuum that pulled me toward the brink. He looked up at me for a split second, his eyes dark and swirling with a mixture of lust and adoration, before he dove back in with a renewed hunger. The world narrowed down to the sensation of his mouth and the feeling of his shorn head beneath my palms, a perfect, raw symmetry of surrender.
When the release finally hit, it was like a dam breaking. I arched my back, a long, low groan escaping my lips as I came hard, my body shuddering in waves. Tom didn't pull away he stayed with me through every pulse, swallowing everything, his throat working as he took me in. He held me there until the last tremor subsided, his forehead resting against my thigh, his breathing heavy and synchronized with mine.
He slowly sat back on his heels, a small, satisfied smile playing on his lips. He looked completely undone, his chest heaving, the pale skin of his scalp still glowing in the dim lamplight. For a long moment, neither of us spoke, the silence filled only by the soft sound of our breathing and the settling of the room. The air was still heavy with the scent of cut hair and intimacy, a lingering ozone that felt like the aftermath of a storm.
Tom reached up, grazing my cheek with his thumb, his gaze soft. "Better?" he whispered, his voice a wrecked, low rumble.
"Much better," I breathed, pulling him upward. He rose like a mountain, his large frame enveloping me as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me flush against his warm, bare chest. We stood there in the center of the wreckage, surrounded by a carpet of dark hair and discarded clothes - two people who had finally stopped pretending and started feeling.
He guided me toward the bed, his movements slow and heavy, as if the gravity in the room had shifted. As we sank into the sheets, the friction of the linen against our skin felt heightened, every touch amplified. Tom rolled over me, his broad shoulders blotting out the light of the lamp. He didn't rush he spent a long time just tracing the contours of my face, his fingertips light, exploring me with the same meticulous curiosity I had used with the clippers.
"You have no idea," he murmured, his lips grazing my ear, "how many times I've imagined you touching me. Not just the hair. Just... you."
I wrapped my legs around his waist, pulling him deeper into the cradle of my hips. He responded by sinking into me, his movements rhythmic and sure, a steady tide of heat and pressure that felt like a conversation we had been having in silence for years. There was no performance here, no trademark to maintain. There was only the sound of our skin sliding together, the low, guttural noises Tom made when he buried his face in my neck, and the feeling of his heart hammering against my own.
As the night deepened, the intensity shifted from the frantic peak of the haircut to something slower and more profound. We lingered in the spaces between gasps, in the quiet pauses where we could simply feel the weight of each other. Tom's skin was an oven, radiating a heat that seemed to seep into my own bones, his large frame molding itself to mine as if trying to merge our bodies into a single entity. Every time I shifted, the sensation of his newly shorn scalp grazing my shoulder or chest sent a fresh jolt of electricity through mea physical reminder of the vulnerability he had trusted me with.
He paused for a moment, propping himself up on his elbows to look down at me. The lamp cast a golden glow over the curvature of his skull, highlighting the precise, velvet texture of the buzz cut. He looked different - not just the loss of the hair, but the way his eyes had settled. The tension that had lived in his jaw for years had finally dissolved, leaving behind a softness that made my chest ache. He reached up, his fingers tracing the line of my eyebrow with an almost reverent lightness.
"I feel like I've been holding my breath since the first time we met," he whispered, his voice a low, gravelly vibration. "And I just finally exhaled."
I smiled, reaching up to pull him back down. "You're a lot quieter when you're shorn of all that hair."
He let out a genuine, chest-deep laugh that shook both of us, the sound echoing in the stillness of the room. He kissed me then - not the desperate, starving kiss of before, but something slow and tasting of contentment. He shifted his weight, his movements heavy and fluid, sliding his hand down to grip my wrist and pinning it gently against the pillow. He didn't use strength to overpower me, but to anchor me, his eyes locked onto mine with a clarity that felt like an open book.
We drifted through the remaining hours like sailors in a warm current, the clock on the bedside table ticking toward a morning that felt irrelevant. We mapped each other out with a slow, hungry precision, trading the mechanical rhythm of the clippers for the organic cadence of skin on skin. There was no urgency left, only a profound curiosity. I discovered the way his breath hitched when I kissed the hollow of his hip, and he found the exact pressure of my touch that made me lose my train of thought. We tangled ourselves in the sheets, a chaotic knot of limbs and heavy breathing, exploring the geography of one another until the boundaries between where he ended and I began felt blurred and imprecise.
Every time I brushed my hand across the back of his head, Tom let out a low, humming sound of approval. He seemed fascinated by his own nakedness, the way he would lean his head back and expose his throat, leaning into my touch as if he were trying to absorb every ounce of validation I could give him. The shorn scalp was a tactile focal point, a velvet anchor in the sea of our movements. He clung to me with a quiet, desperate strength, his broad chest heaving against mine, his eyes never leaving mine even in the depths of the most blinding peaks. It was a complete surrender, an exchange of secrets that didn't require a single word.
As the room began to bleed from deep indigo into a pale, translucent gray, the silence changed. The intensity of the night had cooled into a soft, humming warmth, leaving us entwined and exhausted. We lay in the wreckage of the bed, the air smelling of salt and lingering desire. Tom was draped across me, his heavy arm slung over my chest, his breathing finally steady and deep. The first hint of dawn filtered through the blinds, casting striped shadows across the room and illuminating the dark carpet of shorn hair that still littered the floor.
I looked at him - his face peaceful, the sharp lines of his jaw softened by sleep, the bold, raw look of his buzzed head making him look like someone who had finally stepped out of a storm. He felt lighter, not just in the physical sense, but as if a psychic weight had been lifted from his shoulders. He shifted, pressing a lazy, warm kiss to my collarbone, his eyes fluttering open to reveal a gaze that was clear and brimming with an unfamiliar kind of peace.
I ran my fingers over the prickle of his scalp one last time, the sensation grounding me in the quiet of the morning. "So," I whispered, my voice thick with sleep and a sudden, sharp curiosity. "What do you think is next for us?"
Tom let out a slow, humming breath, his chest expanding against mine. He didn't answer immediately instead, he propped himself up on one elbow, looking around the room. His eyes lingered on the clippers on the floor and then drifted back to me, a small, knowing smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. He looked like a man who had just discovered a new language and was eager to see how much of it he could speak.
"I don't know about 'next' in the way people usually mean it," he murmured, his voice a low, gravelly rumble that vibrated through my ribs. "But I know that for the first time in my life, I don't feel like I'm playing a part. I don't feel like I have to be the man with the perfect hair or the man who has everything under control."
He leaned in, his forehead resting against mine, the scent of him - warm skin and a hint of that citrus cleaner filling my senses. "I think 'next' means I don't have to hide the parts of me that feel too much. Not with you."
He shifted his weight, pulling the duvet up around our shoulders to shield us from the morning chill. He looked at me with a quiet intensity, his hand sliding down to intertwine his fingers with mine, squeezing firmly. There was no panic in his eyes, no fear that the magic of the night had evaporated with the darkness. Instead, there was a sense of arrival.
"Next," he whispered, a glint of mischief appearing in his amber eyes, "is probably a very long breakfast. And maybe... you showing me how to use those clippers properly. Because I think I'm going to want to feel that buzz again. Probably soon. And maybe . ."
"Maybe? Maybe what"
"Maybe you will want to feel that buzz on you, too."
