The Darkest Day by Just_Me Hey Just_Me — you should be proud of what you have given us with this gift of a story. A haircut story? Yes. A heartfelt story? Yes. I know this easily shot into my top 5 all time favorites on this site…and shoot there’s a lot of stories here! The gift of such prose and storytelling (proofreading be damned I saw nothing wrong!). And the gift that is this story. My heart breaks for Curtis and Walter both. The realness made this that much more impactful. No one should ever have to reach a point like Curtis did, but it does sadly still happen. Just Another School Part II by Just_Me @Zero, thanks for the positive comments. I’ve really come to rely on your support for my writing, and am thrilled that you liked the main character.
As far as saying a seventeen-year-old is a child, I have to push back a little. The main point of reference I have for a seventeen-year-old is myself. At that age, I had been working full-time for four years (yes, I started working when I was thirteen), while going to school, and graduating with honors. I had paid off my truck, was paying on a second vehicle, and had the money saved for my first apartment, as well as having bought everything I needed to furnish the apartment, down to the last dish towel and soap dish.
The other point of reference I have for teens is my own children. At that age, they were working part-time, to pay for their gas and insurance on their cars. I had bought them cars, with the understanding they would be responsible for that. I never had one of my children miss an insurance payment, or ask me for gas money…even though they knew I would help them out if they needed it.
I knew better than to act like Dumbo did in this story. As I said, I think the abuse that happened in the story is that his father let him act this way, without teaching him right from wrong.
I also don’t think there’s something magical about turning eighteen that makes a person an adult…or twenty-one…or hell, even sixty. I know some people my age who are still stuck at the age of fifteen. HA
Having said all of that, I’m more than willing to agree to disagree. You have the right to your opinion, and I respect that, and I appreciate the fact that you were willing to voice your thoughts. Just Another School Part II by Just_Me Just_Me. Man, as much as I respect and esteem you as a fellow writer, I have to disagree here. I understand the concept and idea you went for. But I do think a seventeen years old is a child still, and I believe stories about institutions can not escape being social commentary in one way or another, author intent aside. I do as you know support you writing beyond your borders (that is creative growth and challenge!). And I think this is an interesting main character, I love characters with agency, that push back (and gets a rewarding ending!). The side characters work too! The Darkest Day by Just_Me @JB...your kind words are touching. Saying, "Thank you" seems so inadequate. I really appreciate you taking time to comment. I tried to write the story where Walter was able to reach Curtis, but the story just didn't work that way...just like life often doesn't work that way.
If there's a moral to this story, I would like to think that it's simply we can make a difference in people's lives, in random, short-lived interactions. Walter may not have saved Curtis' life, but he did have an impact on Curtis, and made Curtis' darkest day a little better. If each of us could do that, the world would be a better place. You taking the time to make a comment made my day a lot brighter, and I'm grateful for your kindness.
@Zero,as usual, your insight is amazing, and you often see things I don't when I'm writing. I look forward to your comments, because I always learn something. I'm jealous of your ability to analyze the stories, and come up with new perspectives.

The Darkest Day by Just_Me This is, by definition, a haircut story. And flattops are my favorite haircut to read (and write) about. But this is, from beginning to end, a human interest story; and an excellent one! Pure, raw emotions; both good and bad. It's good that you left your words 'as is'; any refining would have weakened them. I, and I'm sure most of the folks reading this story, along with barber Walter, can't help but think that we would have, could have, found a way to make Curtis see a different path than the one he chose. When one is deep in depression, and suicidal, they can't even imagine there being an end to the tunnel (depression), much less any light at the end of the tunnel. Shorn by a shorn guy by Snagg There is nothing like a shaved head I had from 2000 to 2007 my head razor shave smooth at times I grew my hair for a week or two or a month or two yust to have it shaved again as you all knows for the last 8 years have it cut in a low mid or high fade but having it cut in a high skin fade most of the time that is ny preferred cut shaved high on the sides and up the back and having my top cut down to 15mm at times I will grow it to between 20mm and 25mm or a few mm longer, the shorter the haircut the better it's for me...my most favorite is a high and tight fade with 15mm on top and a slightly longer bumper fringe yut to comb over the short too....I was one's very brave and cut the top to a no1 I loved how it felt but the no1 did not look good on me, I cut the top a few times with a no2 which looked much better and still felt like velvet sandpaper, i do look my best with the top clipper shaved and then shaved nice and smoooooooth with a razor I have a haircut fatish and dream of meeting a nice guy who also have a secret haircut fatish who invites me out with him having a nice meal and and and after spending the night at his place he takes me to his barber,first he goes to the barber's chair asking him to cut his hair lik the last time but shorter after his hair is cut and the sides/back razor shaved smooth he tells me YOUR TURN NOW... telling the barber to shave my sides and back right to the top, then thinning and cutting my top that it only can lay flat with a bit of product, what a experience that will be....love love love looking and hoping that there is some one out there that I will meet and share this special cut together brrŕŕŕŕr that will be some dream'my day

Transformation by Snagg Once you go bald, if you have any kind of attraction towards shaved heads, it’s almost impossible to ever grow your hair out again.
I was always attracted to guys with short hair but once I made the shaved head my permanent haircut choice, my attraction to bald guys grew intensely. Now just the thought of guys getting their heads shaved makes me horny.

This is because the conflict between my own increasing (and sexually linked) interest in short haircuts, and my desire to have the usual seventies appearance, was at its most acute at that age. So I am writing about my own experience. Barber soumission by Frenchflattop Pour une fois je décide de m'asseoir devant une histoire francophone et...quelques mots pour l'auteur: il est difficile de savoir si cette histoire a vraiment été écrite par toi, surtout avec un titre comme "Barber soumission", mais je vais te laisser le bénifice du doute (et désolé si je me trompe). Belles descriptions dans tous les cas, mais suite à la première scène avec le barbier, tu changes de la première personne à la troisième personne (de "moi" à "il"), rendant l'histoire légèrement difficile à suivre. En parlant du barbier, la "soumission" à celui-ci n'est que quelques paragraphes, à peine pour dire que c'est le focus de l'histoire. Je comprends l'aspect de transformation à travers les lignes, mais j'aurais bien aimé avoir un peux plus de temps dans le salon, plus qu'une simple mention. Si toutefois tu décides d'écrire sur ce site à nouveau, je serai content de lire ce que tu as à nous offrir. N'ai pas peur d'aller en detail pour la coupe (on est tous ici pour cela, n'est-ce pas?) et surtout ne pense pas que j'écris tout ceci pour te dégonfler; au contraire, je t'encourage de continuer et je t'offre ma critique pour but de t'améliorer dans tes futurs projets. WHAT ITS LIKE HAVING A HAIRCUT FETISH by forrealz This is a thing? Holy f*** I thought I was a creep or something. I've had this strange fascination with people shaving their heads, man, woman, or whatever.
I used to really binge videos whenever I could, having favorites even. Youtube was limited back then, and without finding forced haircut videos (that's not what I'm into personally) it's hard finding things I have not already watched, or videos I don't like. My favorite ones were usually ones with no guards at all, or a specific length that mimicked what I wanted myself, because the same time, I also really wanted to shave my head growing up. It was more so just because it seemed cool, or because I wanted to donate it, but that was years ago.
