I'll only have it real short. by Walt
Years and years, having to put up with not having the haircut I wanted. Always a reason-pressure to conform at work was a big one. So one day thirty years ago I wander into a WWII barbershop from old San Francisco which gave five buck haircuts to old chiefs from the Navy. Barber says 'Not that many young guys want a regular 1940s haircut. What's with you, young man?" I said I just want it short, Ivy League.
Years of going to barbers and putting up with women who said "Well it's not a high and tight but I think it (a Ceasar!) will look better for you. I should not have paid. Times have changed, and now what I want is what half the guys want. And it's not a hassle to get a regular haircut-no endless discussion, no stylists, no hair dye... A few rules: I don't go to barbershops where women have moved in and want to feminize men. Don't know why, my grandfather, a carpenter, had a photo of him as a little Lord Fauntleroy, looking real girlish. Women have been doing his for a long time-I'm a total feminist but some things they can't do-like give a man's haircut, the kind the U.S. basically invented. Love it. Practical and sexy at the same time.
So tomorrow I go for my every two week crewcut, great! Don't have to tell the barber anything, he knows exactly what I want. People see me and like it. To each his own, on me short hair's the best-my WWII Navy Dad felt that way for all three of his sons and he was right. Bring on the clippers.
