A bad situation turned good by recruit

One Saturday I had to watch my sister's son Adam 15 and my brother's daughter Amanda 4, since they and their spouses both had to work on that particular Saturday. Adam's dad had asked me if I wouldn't mind running Adam by the barbershop, to get his haircut. I told him I wouldn't mind but, that Adam would have to tell the barber how he wants his haircut, I wasn't going to get involved with that decision. Adam has been growing his blond hair out from a buzz cut last summer and had long bangs and hair over his ears. His bangs fell into his eyes way past his eyebrows, this was a subject of much discussion among Adams father and him self. I wanted NO part in this melodrama. This discussion was finalized by and ultimatum being given to Adam, that he wanted his haircut half way from his eyebrows in the middle of his forehead and tapered in the back and tapered over the ears. Adam was not happy to say the least. Now the problem starts with the little ears of my sweet 4 year old niece Amanda. Amanda over hears this discussion between Adam and his father.

After a little breakfast, I had set down in my recliner and Adam had taken his position on the couch, Amanda was in front of the Television watching cartoons. I feel asleep and so did poor Adam. Adam is a very heavy sleeper, this boy could sleep threw an earthquake. Amanda thinking she was helping her older cousin, took the scissors from my wife's sewing kit and took a major snip of Adams blonde bangs close to the forehead skin line where the bangs begin, She took his hair off to the skin, she cut all his bangs off and cut major gaps all over his head. She really did a job on the top shorting the hair to the skin in several places. I woke up and noticed that Amanda was playing Delilah to Adams Samson. What a horror, I grabbed the scissors and scolded Amanda. She began to cry.. All I was trying to do was help "MY" Adam. I leaned down and shook Adam, it took some doing but I finally awaken the sleeping Samson. I said Adam my boy your little cousin Amanda" did a major number on you my pal". She cut off your hair while you were sleeping. He reached up and felt his butchered haircut. Tears ran down his face, and he screamed no... Running to the mirror in the bathroom. Where he gazed on the job done by Amanda to his once pretty long blond hair. Amanda followed him running behind him crying.. I am sorry!!! I was just trying to help you.... I didn't want to see you get in trouble with Uncle Terry ( Adams dad). She wept and wept asking him to forgive her... Adam said Don't worry about it.... What is done is done( what a shocker... what a great kid to realize that she really didn't mean to do harm to him) I know you were just trying to help. He said what can we do, can I get it fixed to where it will look okay. I told him that I was sorry. Nothing could be done short of buzzing it off. He said well shoot dad wanted me to have it buzzed anyway.. I guess he got his wish...

I told him I would get my old clippers and cut it for him, I only had a #1 attachment since the others were broken. And I said besides I think that it will take at least a #1 to get it short enough to take care of the gaps in the hair. He set down in the chair, and I begin to run the clippers over his head, when the #1 attachment, snapped off the clippers. leaving a patch of clean white skin where the clippers ran over his head after the #1 attachment had fallen off. I stopped the clippers and there it was another butcher job done on my poor nephew Adam. His eyes were as big a half dollars. I told him Adam this is just not your day son. He took his hand to the top of his head. Running his fingers over what was now clean 000 shaved scalp. I told him I was sorry, but we had to finish the job, So I begin to shave his head down with the 000 clippers. It didn't take long to finish, his head was white a snow. I ran the clippers over once again to give a smooth feel and turned them off. Adam ran his hands over his freshly shaved head. shaken his head, he said I never thought this would happen today. I told him neither did I. We set there for a few minutes admiring his newly shaved head. I told him that it looked good on him. He said it felt kinda okay. He said I wonder how it would feel ( reaching for the shaving cream on the counter ) completely shaven. Jokingly I grabbed the shaving cream and sprayed some on my hand and smeared it on his head. I was grabbing a towel to wipe it off when he took the can and spayed more on his hand and rubbed it on his head. Handing me the razor and said "lets see". I stood there for a few minutes and thought, this was not a good idea. I said " no lets let it be". He said now this is as probably as short of hair as I'll ever have... and it better be, he added. I want to see how it feels to have my head shaved. I feel you owe me this much. So I agreed and ran the Mach 3 razor over his freshly sheared head. I felt his skin, as my fingers followed the razor. Smooth as a baby's butt. I finished up shaving his head and toweled him off, Now that is a white head if I ever saw one, I said. I said what are your parents going to say? what well we tell them. Adam said" say nothing "I'll tell them I shaved my head this morning before you all got up... I don't want Amanda in trouble. And I don't want you to feel you owe any explanation to anyone. I'll tell them it was my choice. I agreed. I keep it shaved for him for several months, He came over for me to shave his head, daily since he couldn't reach the back. I showed him how to shave it on his own,and he shaved it himself for a year or so then grew it back, but never more than a #2 buzzcut. Amanda is 8 now she doesn't do haircuts, but Adam is 19 and has a smoothly shaved bald head. I think he was glad Amanda gave him that haircut. I might add,these days, my nephew Adam is a great looking young man, with a nicely tanned shaved head.
