Independence Day - Part 3 by htflatnc

As I was wolfing down breakfast, Mike was glaring at me. After a couple of minutes silence, I finally asked, "What?"
"Nothin’ and don’t talk with your mouth full," Mike added as he had a half smile.
"Yes mother," I replied and began standing up while emptying the last of my glass of juice. I went over to the sink, washed the glasses and put them in the dish washer. Mother had trained her sons well. "Let’s go, I think I hear Phil driving up."
We both went outside and I could see that Phil was laughing. "What’s up?" Mike asked.
"Where’s Jason’s cape?" Phil asked.
"My cape?" I asked.
"Yeah, your cape. You look like a blond Dracula with your hair slicked back. Where’s your cape?" Phil reiterated.
"Well, at least I still have hair," I retorted.
With that, Phil lifted up his baseball cap and ran his hand through his 1-inch wheat thatch. "Yeah, and I’m getting it cut this afternoon after practice," Phil said as he backed his pickup truck out of the driveway.
"Perfect timing," Mike said. "Jason and I need to get haircuts this afternoon as well. So can we tag along?"
"OK. But you know I don’t go to a salon anymore. I go to Jerry’s."
Mike turned around to me and said, "That’s where grandpa goes. What do you think?"
"Do they only do short haircuts like yours, Phil?" I asked.
"No, they do other haircuts as well. It’s two guys named Jerry there, father and son. The son is about six or seven years older than us. I don’t know if you remember him?"
"Vaguely," Mike said.
"Well, let’s try them out. What’s the worst that can happen?" I asked. And Mike looked back at me.
We pulled into the parking lot at school and got out of Phil’s truck. We all walked up to the school and I got a few brief glances and double takes, but that was all. Finally, Liz and Helen started walking with us.
"What’s up with the new hairdo?" Liz asked. "I didn’t know your ears stuck out like that," she said as she flicked my ear lobe. And then she added quickly, "I like it. The ears, that is. The hair is still way too long."
"Well, I’m getting it cut this afternoon for the dance. Gonna get a rockabilly look," I said.
"Well, should fit in, but what about afterwards. You’re not exactly the bad boy type," she said. I felt so deflated, but then . .. "But having your hair out of your face shows just how hot you really are." Wow!
Then Phil jumped in, "You don’t think he looks like Dracula with his hair swept back?"
"Hmm. Maybe. But a hot Dracula," Liz said.
With that, I grabbed Liz’s shoulder and drew her closer and said, "I want to bite your neck" and snuggled up to her neck. Interesting. She didn’t tense up and she didn’t pull away. And as I noticed how good she smelled. I let her go quickly.
"What if I got my hair cut short like Phil’s?" I asked Liz.
"You’re thinking of getting your hair cut short as Phil’s?" Mike, Phil and Liz all asked almost simultaneously?
"It would be good to see your eyes and your forehead to frame your face," Liz added.
Before I could answer, the first bell rang we all scampered to homeroom for attendance and announcements.
Later that afternoon after practice, I got out of the shower with a towel around me and walked up to a bank of sinks and mirrors. There were about five other guys standing there, including Mike and Phil. Mike was busy with a hairdryer trying to get everything dry and in place. It takes a while with hair that’s ten or twelve inches long. Phil, on the other hand, had towel dried his hair and used a little bit of Suavecito and a brush to spike everything into place.
Phil saw me as I was about to go get dressed and asked "Are you really thinking of getting your hair cut as short as mine?"
"It would certainly make grandpa happy," Mike said.
I just shrugged my shoulders and kept walking as I said, "Same for you Mike."
