Nathan part 2 by Bald K
Nathan messaged Jake to say he was on the way into the city and would see him outside the city hall in ten minutes. Arriving back in the city centre, Nathan got out of the car and walked over to the bench to wait for Jake.
"Wow! Did you lose or bet or did your grandad force that haircut on you!" Jake exclaimed as he walked over to Nathan.
"My choice, I have wanted a peaky blinder haircut since I started watching the programme," Nathan replied. "Feel the back and sides."
"That feels weird, feeling your skin on your head instead of hair," Jake told Nathan as he felt the back of Nathan’s head.
"Fancy getting your haircut like mine?" Nathan asked Jake. "I will pay for it."
"I don’t know mate, it looks good on you but not so sure about on me," Jake confessed. "But I have good news about next school term."
"They have found you a new school?" Nathan asked Jake.
"No, the payment went through before the company went bust, so we will still be at school together," Jake grinned.
"You will definitely need a haircut for when the new term starts," Nathan told Jake. "The peaky brothers?"
"I had not thought of that," Jake replied. "How about me getting a haircut the Saturday before the new term?"
"If you got it cut today, we could get it done regularly after that," Nathan suggested to Jake. "I am booked in for a freshen up four weeks on Saturday."
"You really want me to get a peaky haircut, don’t you?" Jake sighed. "F*** it, let’s do it before I change my mind."
"To the barber shop!" Nathan shouted out.
Jake followed Nathan the barber shop and walked in to see a boy called Lee from their class sitting on a waiting chair.
"Dude, you have got one cool haircut you have there," Lee said to Nathan. "I was contemplating whether to go for a Finn haircut or just a mid-fade."
"Go for the Finn," Nathan told Lee. "We could be the school peaky blinders."
"I am going for the Finn cut," Jake told Lee. "After a bit of pressure from Nathan."
"You are next young man," the barber said to Lee as he removed the cape from another young man.
Lee strode over to the barber’s chair and sat down as the barber took the money off the young man who had just had his haircut.
"So, are you having the same as your mate?" The barber asked Lee as he caped him up.
"Yeah, but could you do the top, so I have a fringe and cut it down to about an inch," Lee replied.
"No problem," the barber replied as he ran a comb through Lee’s chestnut brown hair.
The barber picked up a pair of clippers and proceeded to remove the bulk of Lee’s chestnut brown hair from the back and sides of Lee’s head before changing to the edger clippers to leave a small amount of stubble on the back and sides of Lee’s head.
"Leave about an inch of hair on the top?" The barber asked Lee.
"Yeah, that will look cool." Lee replied.
The barber picked up a pair of scissors and proceeded to cut the hair on top of Lee’s head down to an inch in length before picking up the electric razor and shaving the back and sides of Lee’s head before removing the cape.
"That is impressive!" Lee exclaimed as the barber showed Lee the back and sides of his head. "I think I will be keeping this style for a while."
"Your turn, mate," Nathan said to Jake. "Time to make it the peaky triplets."
"I cannot do it," Jake replied. "Sorry mate, but I just cannot do it."
Before Lee or Nathan could say anything to Jake, Jake ran out of the barber shop and off towards his home.
"I guess I could have been a bit hard on trying to force Jake to get the same haircut as me," Nathan sighed. "Gaming session?"
"FIFA 22, loser has to buy the winner a McDonald’s," Lee replied.
"You are on," Nathan grinned. "I will call and apologise to Jake later."
"Loser!" Nathan shouted at Lee. "Big Mac meal for me I guess."
"You were just lucky," Lee sighed. "I will get my revenge."
"I will just call Jake and apologise," Nathan told Lee.
"Nathan took his phone out of his pocket and dialled Jake’s number and waited for Jake to reply.
"You are through to the J man, leave a message and I might call you back if you are lucky," Jake’s voicemail told Nathan.
"Dude, I am so sorry I tried to force you into a haircut you did not want, please call me," Nathan said before ending the call.
"No answer?" Lee asked Nathan.
"When does Jake ever answer his phone?" Nathan said to Lee as they walked into McDonalds.
Lee ordered the meals and waited for them before walking over to a small table and sat down.
"Any plans for the rest of the break?" Lee asked Nathan.
"I am going to be working in my grandad’s pharmacy when I hit sixteen next week," Nathan replied. "How about you?"
"I have an interview with the local Tesco store, get me some cash so I don’t rely on my parent’s so much," Lee replied.
"Hope they like your haircut then," Nathan laughed.
"Man, you know Tom that got expelled for busting old man Piper’s nose," Lee told Nathan. "He has got a stupid man bun and works there."
"Tommy was always trouble though, and his old man is a mate of the manager of Tesco," Nathan reminded Lee.
"That is true," Lee replied. "Are you about tomorrow?"
"I don’t have any plans," Nathan replied. "Do you have something in mind?"
"How about a trip to Clacton? My cousin Adam has just arrived for a week’s break." Lee suggested.
"Yeah, I will try and contact Jake," Nathan replied.
"See you at the station tomorrow at eleven," Lee told Nathan. "I better get home and hook up with my cousin."
"See you tomorrow," Nathan replied as he boarded the bus that had just arrived.
Nathan arrived at the station and saw Lee along with his cousin, Adam waiting outside for him.
"Nate, meet my scruffy cousin, Adam," Lee said to Nathan. "Any news on Jake?"
"I left a message on his voicemail, but has not got back to me," Nathan replied. "Let’s get that train and have some fun."
Lee walked over to the ticket office and purchased a group three saver ticket to Clacton. Walking through the ticket barrier, Adam, Lee, and Nathan made their way to the platform and waited for the train to arrive. After a short while the train pulled into the station and the three of them boarded the train and found a block of four seats and sat down for the journey to Clacton.
"So, what is with the peaky haircuts then?" Adam asked Lee and Nathan
"I saw the tv program on tv and thought it looked a cool haircut," Nathan replied. "School regulations state that hair must be off the collar and ears, so I got this haircut."
"Nate walked in for his mate Jake to get his haircut and I saw Nate with his haircut and decided to go for it," Lee grinned. "It is better than that spiked mess you have got."
"I guess," Adam grinned as the train pulled out of the station.
"We will shortly be arriving in Clacton, where this train terminates," a voice said. "Please make sure you have all your belongings with you when leaving the train.
"Come on spike," Lee grinned as he stood up.
Adam and Nathan followed Lee out of the station and started to walk towards the beach and pier.
"Guys, I just want to get a haircut," A
dam said as they walked past a barber shop. "Three empty chairs and what I want will not take long."
"Go for it, cuz," Lee replied. "Not too much off or your girl will not like it."
Lee and Nathan sat on a bench that faced into the barber shop as Adam walked in. Adam sat in the barber chair that the barber pointed to and was soon caped up and the barber ran a comb through Adam’s spiky hair.
"How would sir like his haircut?" The barber asked Adam.
"A grade zero skinhead," Adam replied in a confident manner. "I have always wanted to try it."
"A grade zero all over?" The barber said to Adam.
"Yeah, grade zero all over," Adam grinned.
The barber picked up a pair of balding clippers and oiled them before placing the clippers at the centre of Adam’s forehead.
"F***! He is going skinhead!" Lee exclaimed as the barber ran the clippers down the centre of Adam’s head.
Lee and Nathan watched as Adam’s spiky blond hair fall to the ground. Lee and Nathan could see the big grin on Adam’s face as the barber placed the clippers back on the bench and used the edger clipper around the ears and back of his neck. The barber removed the cape and Adam stood up and rubbed his near bald head before paying the barber.
"Like it guys? I will pay for you to get the rest of your hair shaved off if you are up for it," Adam laughed,
"School regulations do not allow the skinhead look," Lee told Adam. "Your girl is going to go ape when she sees you."
"No longer with her, and this time next week I will be in the army away from my domineering father," Adam replied. "I got my start date a couple of days ago."
"You? In the army?" Lee said to Adam with a shocked look on his face.
"Done the application, tests and medical, and passed with flying colours," Adam grinned. "My father will find out when he opens the letter I will leave."
"I know you did not see eye to eye with my uncle, but the army?" Lee said to Adam.
"Going to be a trainee mech after my induction period," Adam replied. "Anyway, enough of the interrogation lets have some fun."
"I can see why Paul, my new barber suggested every four weeks to keep the haircut looking sharp," Nathan thought to himself as he combed his hair back. "The sides are better when they are shaved."
Nathan put his school blazer on and started the walk to the school hoping that Jake would make an appearance. Arriving at the school, Nathan met up with Lee and walked to the classroom for registration.
"Oh look, the peaky blinders have arrived in the class," Max laughed.
"Did you get your mummies stylist to give you the same boring s*** haircut?" Nathan said to Max. "I bet you do not even know what clippers are, you snobbish c***."
"Right take your seats," Mr Long said as he walked in. "I see Lee and Nathan have had quite severe haircuts, pity some of you other boys don’t get the same haircut."
"Where is Jake?" Lee asked Nathan. "He does know school starts again today?"
"Your guess is as good as mine," Nathan sighed. "I thought that the fees had been paid for this term."
"Sorry I am late sir, I did not realise how long it would take me to walk here," Jake said to Mr Long.
"You are here now, so take a seat," Mr Long told Jake.
"Dude, where have you been?" Nathan asked Jake as Jake sat down. "You are going to get pulled up over your hair as it is over the collar."
"My phone contract has not been paid, and we have just moved into this s**** two-bedroom flat," Jake replied. "I am sorry I ditched you for that haircut."
"The offer is still there after we finish classes today," Nathan told Jake.
"Thanks dude, I appreciate your offer," Jake replied.
"Ok, I have your exam timetables here so you know where and when you will be sitting your exams," Mr Long told the class. "After next week you will have the option of either studying here or at home."
"You are welcome to come over to my place to study," Nathan told Jake.
"I will probably take you up on that offer," Jake replied. "We are eating cheap basic food now from the foodbank."
"I am sure my gran will do you some decent food," Nathan grinned. "We had better get to our final maths mock exam."
Jake and Nathan arrived at the classroom, walked in, and found their allocated seats and sat down as Mr Woods the principle walked in.
"Welcome to your final mock exam for the second maths paper," Mr woods told the students. "You have two hours and thirty minutes to complete the exam."
"What the f*** are you going to do for two hours?" Jake said to Nathan. "You completed the first paper in thirty minutes."
"Sit here and be bored I guess," Nathan replied.
"Did you forget a visit to the barbers?" Mr Woods said to Jake as he placed the exam paper on the desk.
"I am going after school sir, with all that has happened I did not have time," Jake replied.
"Just make sure you do young man," Mr Woods told Jake.
"You may now turn over and start your exam," Mr Woods told the students.
Nathan turned over his paper and within thirty minutes had finished doing the required number of questions placed his pen on the desk.
"That was piece of p***," Nathan thought to himself as he started to check his answers.
"Right, time to sort your hair out," Nathan said to Jake as they walked out of the school.
"Thanks for the offer but I had better head off home," Jake replied.
"But Mr Woods told you to get the haircut, dude," Nathan reminded Jake.
"I will, but I cannot accept any money off you," Jake replied. "See you in the morning."
"Yeah, dude, see you in the morning," Nathan sighed.
Jake made his way back to the two-bedroom flat the council had allocated them and walked in and saw a note on the table.
Jake read the note saying that his father was with the bank sorting out the bankruptcy and his mother was at work. Jake shrugged his shoulders, walked into his parent’s bedroom, and found the clippers that his father used to shave his hair down to a zero to hide his bald patch. Jake walked into the bathroom and stripped down to his briefs and looked in the mirror at his curly blond hair. Taking a deep breath Jake picked the clippers up and switched them on and placed them at the centre of his forehead.
"Time to go skin," Jake thought to himself as he pushed the clippers through the blond hair on top of his head. "No going back now," Jake said as he saw the near bald strip down the centre of his head.
Jake continued to shave the rest of his blond curly hair down to stubble before switching off the clippers. Jake then got his father’s shaving bowl and brush out of the cabinet and ran the hot water. Checking the water was hot, Jake wet the brush and made a lather in the shaving bowl before covering the stubble on his head with the hot lather.
"Mr Woods will not be able to say my hair is to long now," Jake thought to himself as he switched on the skull shaver and started to remove the stubble from his head.
Jake switched the skull shaver off and checked for any patches of stubble that he missed before switching the shower on. Removing his briefs, Jake stepped into the shower and felt the warm water on his freshly shaved scalp.
"Oh yeah, I love this feeling of the water on my bald head," Jake thought to himself as he washed himself.
"Jarhead Jake," Jake grinned as he stepped out of the shower and saw his bald head for the second time. "Bet Nathan will not have the guts to shave the rest of his hair off."
Jake dried himself and cleared the bathroom of his blond curly hair before walking into his bedroom and dressed in a polo shirt and jeans before going into the lounge and switching the TV on.
"I miss not having the movie and sports channels," Jake sighed as he heard a key in the door.
"Are you in Jake!" Jake’s father called out.
"In the lounge!" Jake shouted back.
"What the? Where has all your hair gone?" Jake’s father asked Jake as he walked into the lounge and saw Jake’s bald head.
"I was told to get a haircut by the school, and I know we have not got the money to visit the salon or a barber, so I shaved it," Jake calmly replied. "The bald father and son."
"You certainly look different with no hair," Jake’s father laughed. "Is your mother back home yet?"
"No, she must still be at work," Jake replied. "What happened with the bank?"
"After selling the house and villa along with my work assets, I have had to file for bankruptcy," Jake’s dad replied. "Which means that you will have to attend public sixth form college and I need to find a job."
"I will look for a part time job as well," Jake said to his father. "Get a job in the chip shop as they are looking for staff."
"That will be your own money for clothes and other essentials you need," Jake’s dad told Jake. "Go and inquire about that job and get us some chips for tea."
Jake took the five pound note off his father and walked the short journey to the chip shop and walked in.
"What can I get you?" A young man with short hair asked Jake.
"I was wondering if the job was still on offer," Jake replied. "I am sixteen and need a part time job."
"Oi, Frank, are you still looking for staff!" The young man shouted to Frank.
"How old are you son?" Frank asked Jake as he walked to the counter.
"I am sixteen, but will be seventeen next month, sir, and willing to work hard," Jake said to Frank.
"Bring in some ID and your bank details at four tomorrow, you can start then," Frank told Jake.
"Thank you, sir, I will not let you down," Jake replied. "Can I have a large portion of chips please," Jake said to the young man.
"Have them on the house as you will be working here," the young man said to Jake as he handed over the chips.
"Cheers, mate," Jake said as he walked out of the shop and headed home. "Hey dad I got the job!" Jake shouted out as he walked into the flat.
"Well done, your mother will be home shortly," Jake’s dad said. "God knows what she will think when she sees you shaved head."
"She will ask why I cut all my blond curls off," Jake laughed as he put the chips on two plates.
Jake woke early the next morning and walked into the bathroom and smiled as he saw his bald head. Jake opened the bathroom cabinet, took out the skull shaver, and ran it over the tiny amount of stubble that had grown overnight. Placing the skull shaver back in the cabinet, Jake showered and dressed into his school uniform before walking into the kitchen where his mum was preparing some toast.
"Morning mum," Jake said as he sat down. "I had to get a haircut for school yesterday."
"Yes, it was a bit on the, oh my god Jake what have you gone and done to your beautiful blond curls!" Jake’s mum shouted at Jake as she saw his bald head for the first time.
"I had no money for a visit to the barber, so I decided to try the bald look," Jake calmly replied as he bit into a slice of toast.
"I could have given you some money to get it cut by a barber," Jake’s mum sighed. "It will grow back I guess."
"Actually, I quite like the no hair look, I think it looks cool." Jake grinned. "See you after school."
Jake made the journey to school and took a deep breath before entering the classroom for registration.
"F***ing hell! Jake has only gone against the school rules and got a skinhead!" Nathan shouted out as Jake walked in.
"The stupid thing is I asked for it to be cut like yours, but he misheard me," Jake lied to Nathan.
"Where did you get it cut?" Lee asked Jake.
"That new Turkish barber in high street, he thought I said shaved all over." Jake replied.
"Well, that is quite a transformation, Jake, but you know the rules," Mr Long said as he walked in. "Off you go to see Mr Woods."
"Yes, sir," Jake sighed as he picked up his rucksack and made his way to Mr Woods office.
"Enter!" Mr Woods shouted as Jake knocked on the door and walked into Mr Woods office. "Hmm, I see you have had a haircut, but that style goes against our hair regulations," Mr Woods told Jake.
"It was not my fault sir," Jake lied. "The barber thought I said I wanted all my hair shaved off and before I could say anything he had ran the clippers down the centre of my head."
"That is not my problem," Mr Woods told Jake. "You will now only attend this school for your final exams."
"So, what is the difference between my haircut and the one that Lee and Nathan have got?" Jake said to Mr Woods.
"Lee and Nathan only have the back and sides shaved," Mr Woods replied. "I have made my decision."
"So that is it then?" Jake asked Mr Woods. "I am only allowed on the school premises for my exams."
"That is correct, so if you would leave the school premises now, please," Mr Woods told Jake. "Hopefully, you will have some hair grown back by then."
"F*** you," Jake thought to himself as he made his way out of Mr Woods office and off the school premises.
Lee and Nathan walked off the school premises and saw Jake waiting for them at the gate.
"So, what did the high and mighty say about your shaved scalp?" Nathan asked Jake.
"I am only allowed back on school premises for my exams," Jake replied. "My last term here and a barber f***** up my haircut."
"I heard that you did it yourself at home," Lee told Jake. "A mate of mine heard your dad say it to him."
"Are you lying? Did you shave your own head?" Nathan asked Jake. "Tell the truth."
"Yeah, I shaved it, it was a spur of the moment thing, with my dad losing everything and only mums’ money from her part time job coming in," Jake admitted to Lee and Nathan. "I got home and shaved the lot off and I did it again this morning."
"I offered to pay for you to get a haircut like mine and Lee’s, mate," Nathan told Jake.
"I don’t want your f***ing charity!" Jake shouted at Nathan. "You with your career planned out by your grandad!"
"I was only offering," Nathan said to Jake.
"You only have to ask your grandad for money, and he chucks it at you to keep you on his side!" Jake shouted at Nathan. "I have had to take a job in a f***ing fish and chip shop, so I have some money!"
"Nathan was only trying to help, dude, give him a break," Lee said to Jake.
"Go to hell, the pair of you!" Jake shouted at Lee and Nathan before storming off.
Jake arrived with the required paperwork at the fish and chip shop and walked in to see a young man with a close-cropped hairstyle standing behind the counter.
"Can I help you?" The young man asked Jake.
"I am here to see Frank, I am starting work here today," Jake replied.
"Oi, Frank! The new kid is here!" The young man shouted.
"Come on through," Frank said to Jake.
Jake walked through to the rear of the shop and handed over the paperwork that Frank had requested.
"All seems in order young man, and with no hair you will not need to wear a hairnet," Frank told Jake. "Young Des will go through how to operate the till and various other things."
"Thank you," Jake replied.
"Hi, I am Jake," Jake said to Des as he walked behind the counter.
"Nice haircut, Jakey boy," Des replied. "I need to get mine redone down to a zero."
"Are you a proper skin boy?" Jake asked Des,
"Yeah, a trad skin, no racist s***," Des grinned. "How about you?"
"I shaved my hair off yesterday as my father’s business went bust and I could not afford a proper haircut like I used to have," Jake sighed.
"You look pretty cool with a shaved dome," Des admitted to Jake. "How about coming over and trying some clothes and boots on later?"
"I guess it wouldn’t do any harm," Jake grinned.
"How about chilling with a few others on Saturday after we finish our shift?" Des suggested. "I have an appointment to get some gold in my ears at four."
"That would be cool," Jake replied.
"I could ring up and see if they have a slot, so you get your ear pierced," Des grinned.
"School does not allow any piercings or jewellery except a wristwatch," Jake sighed. "Thanks for the offer though."
"What school do you attend?" Des inquired,
"Saint Paul’s high school for boys," Jake replied. "But after my exams it will be public sixth form."
"Private school eh, I was at the academy," Des told Jake. "I am now at sixth form; I have just finished my first year."
"What are you doing after you finish sixth form?" Jake inquired.
"My uncle runs a garage, I am joining him and studying car mechanics at the instate," Des replied. "How about you?"
"I seriously have not got a clue," Jake admitted to Des.
