Sunday school pt2 by Haircut memories

Now tell me something that you don't like, the captain asked the first boy " going to the dentist" he replied. At that, the captain turned towards us and said,,"you see boys and girls. There are things we like to do and there are things we don't like, but a lot of the things we don't like are most often for our own good. What would happen if you never went to the dentist ? After a few seconds. A boy shouted out, all your teeth will fall out. All the parents laughed. That's right young man. As Christians we believe that we should all be good. Being kind,
considerate, looking respectable and doing the right thing applies to children and grownups alike, so when some things seem unfair, just remember. It's probably for your own good. The lesson went on and on, then another song from from the super smart boys and girls with their white shirts and perfectly tied ties (they were the junior soldiers) I found out later, more like stepford children, then the meeting ended and everyone stood up and started to mix and chat. I was looking over at my mum and noticed that she made a beeline for the captain, after chatting to him for a while she shouted me over. This is my son Christopher. Pleased to meet you Christopher and shook my hand. Did you enjoy the meeting he asked. It was OK, I mumbled. And what did you think? Yeah it was OK I replied. Answer him properly Christopher, mum retorted. Now back in those days your Dad wasn't your best mate. He was your Dad, your Mam was your Mam, saying that, she had always been my closest allie out of the two. You were told, "Never talk to strangers". I was basically a good kid, but talking to a grownups especially men or engaging in any kind of conversation was almost impossible for me. I just felt embarrassed. Yeah it was really good, I said, feeling really proud of myself for giving such a good and full answer. What made it easier was his very friendly manner and the fact that he actually seemed to be interested in what I had to say. Standing there in his uniform looking very smart I knew he was the captain, but instead of feeling intimidated, I felt an overwhelming sense of respect and quite at ease, at that moment the nervous severely clipped boy who answered the first question came over and said to the
Captain that Peters mum wants to know if your still cutting his hair today and what time. Oh hello and how are you feeling now, it wasn't too bad talking in front of all the parents and children was it because I know you were a little bit worried weren't you, it dawned on me that the boy wasn't nervous or
intimidated by the captain at all. My sense of respect for him grew even stronger. At that point my world went on pause and the word seemed to stand still as I heard my Mother say "oh! that's where I know you from, your the barber on st Davids Street full brunt of what the lad had actually said dawned on me. You couldn't fit Christopher in could you. Part 3 soon.
