It was a Sunday. As it was a school holiday, my father took me to Narayana Salon early in the morning to get my hair cut. During school holidays, the shop is very busy but when we went there on that Sunday, the shop was less crowded, but my father dropped me off at the shop and went straight to the nearest tea shop.
When it was my turn to cut my hair, I went straight to the chair without waiting for my father. The barber got me ready for the haircut and asked me what kind of haircut I wanted. There was no definite answer to give, so I put a smile on my face to answer that question. But a stranger who happened to be in the shop at the time responded to that question and it surprised me. Because it was the name of a hair style that I had never heard of before. "Give him a mushroom cut" was his reply.
No one in the shop at the time knew anything about the mushroom cut, not even the barber who cut the hair had a clue about the hair style he was talking about.
As the name suggests, everyone in the shop wanted to know about that hair style. So the barber asked the person who suggested the name. But everyone in the shop laughed at his answer because he didn't even know what mushroom cut was. It was just the name of a hair style he had heard from somewhere.
My father came back to the shop hearing the sound of laughter inside the shop. But when he heard the reason why everyone was laughing, Dad also laughed and gave an interesting answer that no one expected."Give him a mushroom hair cut."
It was an answer I never expected, but the barber asked again, "Do you know what a mushroom cut is? Do you know how to do it?"
"I know! It's easy, I'll tell you how to do it."
Dad explained to the barber in great detail what a mushroom cut was. After listening to the description, I also understood that the mushroom cut is to cut the hair in the shape of a mushroom.
After learning from my father, the barber soon started cutting my hair and it only took ten minutes. He completed the work very easily. I was so happy with mushroom hairstyle. My friends in the school commented on my new haircut, many of it was good! Nice! You look different like that...
