Bye bye mullet, hello buzz cut - PART 2 by Joe.Caleb02

The buzz cut was great, I was loving my freshly shaven head, and the low maintenance nature of the cut was a bonus. No more bed head, hair always dried quickly, so much better than my old floppy hair. In fact I liked the buzz cut so much, I wanted to go shorter.

It had been just about 10 days since the initial buzz, but I wondered down to the barbers once again. A different barbershop this time, I went to the local Turkish Barbers. As I arrived, once again, the barber was busy cutting another client’s hair, so I sat down and waited patiently. There were no nerves this time, I was excited to get the cut underway.

The barber brushed the cut hairs of the previous client, before he stood up, paid and left. It was my turn now. I sat down in the barber’s chair and was all wrapped up in the cape, for the second time in just a matter of days.

"What can I do for you today" the barber asked
"Just tidying up my buzz please" I responded
"Nice, what exactly is it you want done?" He asked

I explained that last time I got a #3 on the top and the sides were faded up from a #1 and blended into the top.

"I’d like the sides skin faded please" I said
"No worries at all buddy, how high we fading you?" the barber responded

Now I’d never had a skin fade before, nor had my hair ever been cut so short so I was a little hesitant at this point.

"Erm, let’s just go for a mid fade please" I responded
"Perfect, let’s go" the barber replied

I’d never had a skin fade before, I’d seen my pals getting one, but never had one myself. I was very curious to see how the haircut would be done and how it would feel.

The barber reached for the small clippers and oiled up the blades. He then asked me to tilt my head forwards slightly. The clippers were turned and I felt the cold, metal blade touch down at the back of my head about half way up as the barber made the first bald line. He continued this around the back and sides of my head, just leaving a feint bald outline to start the fade. Once the line was complete, the barber used the mini clippers to remove all of the hair below the line. In a few short sweeps of the clippers, the entire sides of my head were bald.

The barber then put the small clippers away and grabbed a larger bit of kit, a sort foil shaver. Talcum powder was brushed over the back and sides of my head, before the shaver was turned on. This shaver was possibly the loudest bit of barber equipment I had ever heard. The barber used the shaver all over the sides of my head, going over the same area time and time again, repeatedly going all over and all around my head. The blades were cold and the sensation of the shaver removing the remaining hairs down to skin was amazing.

Once that was done, the foil clippers were put away. The barber reached for the normal clippers and just ran the #3 through the top of my hair to neaten it up. The clippers were then used to complete the skin fade and face the bald sides into the top.

I’d never had a skin fade before, but my god I loved it! The sandpapery sides felt so nice. Finally the cape was loosened and hairs removed from my neck. Another 20 minutes and another haircut! I paid and left the barbershop happy as Larry with my new skin faded buzz cut
