I usually like to keep my hair on the longer side. Not too long of course. I’ve got dark brown fluffy hair that i usually let fall at the front of my head or fall into a middle part. It’s like the hairstyle you see all the men on tiktok have. Well, it was just like any other day when I went to the barbershop to get a trim. I told the barber to just give me my usual trim and at first I thought nothing of it. But as the barber was cutting I thought maybe I wanted to go just a little shorter this time as I didn’t really want to come to the barbers for a while. For context, my hair grows pretty fast so I make frequent trips to the barbers. Once the barber had finished the initial cut, I expressed that I actually wanted to go a little shorter today. He understood and took the sissors and began to cut once again. He didn’t cut much off, just half an inch here and a bit there. Left the sides and back also with quite a bit of hair. He had seemed to finish and my head looked just the same as I would with a trim only a tad shorter. My face was still decently framed with my brown fluffy locks of hair and the sides and back were groomed neatly. But still, it wasn’t enough. I just wanted to go just a smidge shorter to ensure a longer growth period. I expressed to the barber that I wanted my hair just a little bit shorter. He asked on the top, sides, or back? I just said: "everywhere." Waving my hand across my whole head. He said no problem and began once again. He started at the back with some clippers. I think it was a number 5 guard and he just zoomed up and down across the back of my head. He continued along the sides, which i never really had done before. I could see a lot more hair coming off of me. Before I still had some wave/curl to the sides of my head but no, what was a pin straight pelt of hair. Still, I guess that wasn’t enough for him, so he took the next guard shorter and went around again. I was practically buzzed now on the sides and back. Nothing but what looked like over grown stubble. Finally he tackled the top. He put down the clippers which seemed like a good sign. He took the sissors and began forwards the back. I couldn’t exactly see what was happening, but it looked like he was cutting off a decent amount. Once he got to my forelock at the front he lifted the front peice which was probably a little over 3 inches now and cut off around 2 inches like it was nothing. I was shocked. As he continued to cut i noticed that my hair was beggining to stick up on top. It no longer fell to a certain side. Surely thought I thought I would be able to fix that on my own later. The barber continued cutting and I could see the load on my head getting smaller and smaller. My hair has definitely never been this short before. He eventually went back in with the clippers on the sides and kept clipping until there was only a faint pelt that covered the sides and back of my head. No fade, no taper, nothing. Eventually, the barber put the clippers down and began to try to comb my hair into what was a really weak side part. However just when I thought he was done, he grabbed the scissors and moved right in front of me, blocking my view of the mirror. He was cutting around the middle and front of my head, but I didn’t exactly know how much was coming off because my view was blocked. All I knew was that it went on for a while and I could see a decent amount of hair falling to the floor. That was the first time I actually looked down. I saw a large amount of my hair that had been falling down the whole time. Finally, the barber moved away and I saw that whatever was left of that weak side part was basically gone. I didn’t know what to call it. It wasn’t short enough to be a buzzcut, but it also wasn’t long enough to be anything else. I guess it was something along the lines of a crew cut? He turned to me and said I was done, and I stared in amazement. I lifted my arm to feel it, but there was nothing I could do. It all stayed in once place. I couldn’t style it… at all. It wouldn’t go down either. It stuck straight up. It was like short little bristles had replaced the long fluffy mane I once used to sport. I got up, paid, and walked out with a lot less hair than I planned on and it was a new feeling.
