Money. 2 part by jajko
Before reading this story, I recommend reading the first part entitled: Money.
When I wanted to save money on haircuts for a new bicycle light, I went to Mr. Smith's cheap barbershop, where I got a short, unfashionable boy's haircut in 1973.
One evening, father said, he had been to Mr. Smit's barber shop. He remembered me, praised me for being a decent boy. But he said that my hair is too fine and damaged for a boy of my age, but it can be prevented and he also gave my father instructions. He also praised Mr. Smith for having really cheap haircuts.
After 3 weeks on Friday, when my father came from work, he called me to the car and told me to get in the car. We were both quiet on the way, only when we parked near Mr. Smith's barbershop did I timidly ask where we were going. Father said that Mr. Smith has a solution to how I can have healthy and thicker hair again over time. I told him that I don't want to get a haircut again and never again at Mr. Smith's barbershop. My behavior made my father very angry and he ordered me out of the car and then pushed me to the barbershop.
When we entered the barbershop, Mr. Smith gave us a warm welcome. There was an elderly man in his chair and two other elderly men were on the waiting chairs. Before I was called to the barber's chair, the guys I met at the barber's 3 weeks ago came to the barber shop. Michael must have remembered me because he smiled when he saw me and winked with one eye. Both boys, like me, had less than 1 inch of hair on the top of their heads and about 3/8 of an inch on the back of their necks.
When I was invited to the barber's chair, the barber asked my father what we are going to do with the damaged hair. Father got up from the waiting chair and came to the barber. They talked quietly for a while then dad said ok i'll leave it up to you mr smith. I'm waiting for the same short haircut I got from Mr. Smith three weeks ago.
The barber wrapped me in a white sheet, combed my hair. He took the electric clipper off the hook. Oil dripped into the center of the metal attachment. I was about to put my head forward, but Mr. Smith blocked it from me. I felt the cold metal teeth on my forehead. The machine turned on and the barber cut the top of my head. When I saw my head in the mirror for a little while, there was a 5/32 inch long stubble on the top of my head. I felt a heavy stone in my stomach. The barber continued to cut his entire head. When the clipper turned off, I saw the smiles of the boys in the waiting chairs.
The barber asked his father if he should shave or cut the stubble #000000. I saw in my father that, just like me, he didn't know what the barber was talking about. Then he said about #000000. The barber changed the blades to very fine ones and in no time there was only 1/250th of an inch of fine, very small stubble all over my head.
After my liberation from scalping, my father replaced me in the barber's chair. I went to sit on the waiting chair with tears in my eyes. But Michael grabbed my hand and led me out of the barber shop. There he introduced himself to me and said: When I saw you here today with your father, I assumed that you would be hairless today. Did Mr. Smith tell you that your hair was damaged? I answered not to me but to my father.
Michael began to tell me his own story. About 3 years ago, they were going to a wedding and the father wanted the boys to have their hair cut. Their nearby modern barbershop was closed, so his father took him and his brother Edward to Mr. Smith's barber shop. We got a haircut and the barber said our hair was damaged but he knew how to fix it. Then after 3 weeks dad asked Mr. Smith and he cut all our hair. We had our hair cut like this for almost a whole year, regularly every 4 weeks. When the barber decided that we had gotten better. We started talking to my father about long modern hairstyles, but Mr. Smith said that if we don't regularly have short hairstyles, the hair will be damaged again.
Father left the barber shop, I said goodbye to Michael. He said maybe we will meet here in 3 weeks or I will come to see in 4 weeks.
On the way home, my father told me that for the treatment of my hair to have an effect, I must have a regular haircut like this for at least 6 months, every 3 to 4 weeks.

Michael was right. During my treatment I had 15 haircuts with the #000000 attachment, but every 3 weeks. My hair had grown to 3/8 of an inch and I was already sitting with my father in the barbershop. When we met in the barbershop with Michael, he always encouraged me with a thumbs up. When Mr. Smith judged that my hair was almost healthy and I told my father that I would like a modern haircut and long hair, my father's response was: No Adam, if you want to have normal healthy hair, we will continue to go to Mr. Smith's barber shop . After all, you already have friends there.
No amount of promises or crying helped. For another 5 years I was a regular customer of Mr. Smith with my father.
Always the same boy haircut: 1/2 inch on the top of the head, bangs cut high above the eyebrows. There was no more than 1/4 inch stubble on the sides and nape of the neck and 1 and 1/2 inch white arcs around the ears and I had 5 inches of my head shaved from the shirt collar.
