Time for a change by Hazy

Time for a change

It was the end of summer, and college was approaching very soon. I had everything I needed packed and sorted. I'd be moving to a new city over 300km away I was looking forward to a new chapter in my life and meeting new friends and learning away from the high school environment. Hopefully this way my chance to grow, develop and be an independent man.

I quickly adjusted to college lifestyle. However still took time to build up friendships. One of the first days spent was unpacking and after that was done I was finally going to get a haircut.

I had thick bushy curly brown hair which I've always hated growing. I always asked for it buzzed short like my dad had his but my mom loved my hair and never let me get it cut so severe. However more so I always wanted it shaved all off. I wasn't sure if I would be brave enough to go through with it. Mostly it was others in my life who held me back from such a transformation. However no-one knew me here in the city. This screamed to me as the perfect opportunity.

As I was thinking about haircuts I decided to google barbers in the East side of the city close to where the college was.
I saw that there were 6 dotted close by. I decided it was now or never to go to a barber shop and get rid of the half afro style mess curly mop.

I wandered down one street and saw the first one it was a very stylish barbers and I was looking for a more traditional older style. I walked past and within a few yards came to a second shop However they were young woman and I felt strange so kept on walking past. After a few streets there were 4 on the one long street. As I approached Brandon's barber shop I looked in the window as I passes by I saw a man standing there looking out he had very short cropped grey hair about 50 years old.
I decided to head in and as I opened the door an old bell dinged out.

"Hey how can I help you" the barber asked. I could only imagine him thinking why is there a man with a mass of hair like that wandered into my barbers.
Can you cut my hair really short? I asked

The barber replied well yes but I don't do fancy student skinfades or all them new styles. I do trsditional clipper cuts. Very short compared to ehat you have. and I'm not sure you'll want to loose that much of your hair to me this afternoon looking at all them curly locks.

No, no I explained I want it shaved really short all over if you can,

"Well then I guess you better take a seat.
Just exactly how short you want to go"? He asked as I took a seat and took my glasses off.

Well em buzzed really short .. okay he said tell you what I'll start with a Higher guard and that way I can take it shorter.
He started with scissor to the bulk away. Masses of chunks of curly locks rained down and landed on my lap and on the floor around me. It felt like a weight of my shoulders.
After he plugged in the clippers and the vibration against my scalp was a wonderful feeling, it felt cool and I enjoyed the air on my scalp. The barber done 4 or 5 strips of the clipper to show me how short it was, but to me it felt like a normal head of hair. "Short enough for you or you want me to take it shorter" the barber asked.

I looked in the mirror to see the barbers reflection and asked how short hus hair was.
"Goodness my hair , well I get mine to a double zero but it's probably a just under 3mm at the moment". Can I get it like yours? It looks better.
Sure but that's some change he stated un disbelief. The barber changed the attachment and buzzed a path down the side where he previously shaved to show me the difference. That better for you the barber asked. I looked and felt it.
It's better but can you go any shorter

Well I can shave it a zero no attachment after that if not short enough I will wet shave it. Okay I smiled zero then maybe a wet shave. He took the guard off the clippers and started buzzing my head.

So why the skinhead he asked. Well I'm fed up of my hair it's too long and I wanted to see what I'd look like.

The barber told me I had a great head shape and it's easier to keep it buzzed.

The feeling of the cold steel vibration against my scalp was sensational. I saw the new me. After he was finished he said I think you should keep it buzzed like that come back next week. And if you still want to go bald I'll do it then.

I paid him and couldn't stop feeling my head it felt like sandpaper and looked great like a new army marine or something. As I walked down the street back I decided to go for a beer in a local pub and get to know new people in the city.
