Jo’s Barbershop #10 Dye Job no more by Mr. Nice Guy

*Story is AI assisted & unfinished
—————————————————————-
The barbershop was empty. The chairs were neatly lined up in rows, and the mirrors were clean and shiny. There was no sign of life in the shop, but then again, there hadn't been for some time now.

The barbershop door suddenly swung open and a pool of light spilled out onto the tiled floor. A boy with a frown on his face & grown out dyed afro with about 2inches of blond roots showing entered, followed by his mother. The boy had been told that he was going to get a flattop, but he was not sure what it would look like because he had never seen one before.

"I want to keep my hair," he yelled at his mother as they entered the shop "It's a part of who I am."

His mother yelled back and told him that hair grow back. She reminded him that he was only eleven years old, and wouldn’t be in this situation if the boy listened about the dye job being a bad ideal to begin with.

"It's not just a phase," he argued. "It's me!"

His mother shook his head at her son and sighed deeply before saying, "you don’t have a choice in the matter. we are cutting that hair. now sit down in the waiting area & wait your turn"

As he sat there waiting for someone to come out, he started to wonder what a flattop was.
He never been in a real barbershop before.

As the kid continues to pout he started to take in his surroundings noticing the somewhat shabby surrounds and the line of oversized chairs that were lined up in front of him. This was much different than the chain salons he was used to visiting his entire life.

Suddenly a door he didn’t notice before opens & slams shut. There stood a man of Short Stature. The barber’s eyes lingered slowly over the boy as he walks over to the kid with a friendly smile on his face.
The kid thought to himself, I don’t want to get my haircut here or by this man but before he can protest again…

Barber: Hello, how can I help you today?
Mother: He needs a haircut.
Barber: yes it certainly does look like it. My name is Jo what’s your name son ?
Mother: His name is Eli
Jo: ok Eli, have a seat in the barberchair.
Eli: mom can’t you just take me to Great Clips, I don’t want to get a haircut here.
Mother: ELI I SAID ……. !!
Jo: mam I’ll take care of it. Young man, you heard your mother, get in the chair.
Eli: I’M NOT GETTING A HAIRCUT HERE !
Mother: I’m sorry to of bothered you Jo, I really wish he would get a haircut today but it looks like he won’t cooperate. I swear he never fused this bad before about getting a haircut.
Jo: I don’t mind and if you’ll allow me I should be able to get him in the chair & give him a haircut I think y’all approve of
Mother: I would love any help you could offer.
Jo: ok Eli we can do this the easy way or the hard way. I’ll count to 5 and when I’m done you better be in that barber chair over there…

1…2…3…no movement by Eli yet…4…Eli starts to stand up…5…Eli is standing but not making any moves towards the chair and looks like he is ready to walk out the front door. Jo grabs Eli’s shoulder from behind and guides him into the chair forcefully.

The boy sat in the chair, his head held low He wanted to cry for mercy. As the barber tried to comb the boys locks, the boy attempted to move his head away unsuccessfully. Ignoring the kid & letting the kid squirm for now Jo again addresses the mother.

Jo: so what are we doing today ? His hair seems pretty damaged and I suggest we take most of the length off.
Eli: NO
Mother: I was thinking about a flattop for him. his father god bless his soul used to wear one.
Jo: I don’t think a flattop would work and especially if he is not willing to take care of it. How about I take most of the length away on the sides & leave the top longer. I can always go shorter after I’m done if you want.
Mother: okay we can try that.
Jo: [whispering] Eli im trying to be nice to you, but you need to listen and not fight me.
Eli: f*** you old man
Mother: are you sure you can handle this ?
Jo: it’s not the 1st time I’ve dealt with misbehaving kids in the chair
Jo: that will be your last outburst, continue to fight me & I’ll shave all your hair off.
Eli: "takes a few deep breaths" You wouldn’t dare.
Jo: Mom do I have full freedom on the choice of final haircut to include using clippers over his entire head.
Mother: yes you can cut it however you think will look the best as long as you cut off the parts that was dyed.
Jo: perfect, Eli you heard your mother I can cut your hair however I want, I will leave you something to comb if you behave & follow my instructions do we have a deal ?
Eli: fine get on with it. It’s not like I have a choice.

————Eli’s point of view ————
