The wedding went by really fast, and before they knew it, Kyle and Richard were back home. Kyle’s mom was really pleased that he had cut his hair. She thought it looked great and she was so happy that he had done this for her.

Kyle and Richard never discussed if there were going to be any haircuts ahead of them after they got home. Kyle’s hair was already pretty short, so he felt confident that he wouldn’t be the one to get a haircut, but he couldn’t wait to see if Richard would actually go through with it and let him give him a much shorter haircut.

He so wanted to cut his father’s hair down shorter like they had talked about. Richard’s hair would then look exactly like Kyle’s. They could then start growing their hair long and get to try a lot of different looking haircuts on each other. He knew they would really have a great time doing that.

Kyle and Richard may have not said anything to each other about haircuts during the week, but it had been on Richard’s mind the entire time. Should he go ahead and actually let Kyle cut his hair to look like his? He loved his hair a lot. Would he really want his hair to be that short?

On the other hand, he knew that Kyle’s hair looked really great so his hair probably would too. It had been over ten years since his hair was anywhere near as short as they had talked about. The thought of watching Kyle give him a short haircut was tempting though.

Richard knew that if he did this that it would probably be the beginning of them cutting each other’s hair all the time. He really wanted to do that. It would be awesome getting to cut Kyle’s hair so often. He felt it probably would be worth getting more than half of his hair cut off if that was what it would take to be Kyle’s barber from now on.

If he cut Kyle’s hair all the time, he knew he would have to figure out a plan to give him a flattop. They had kidded about that last week, but the thought of really giving Kyle a flattop was a huge rush for Richard.

Richard would love it if Kyle grew his hair about six inches long and he then convinced him to get a flattop. If Kyle did decide to grow his hair that long again, Richard would have plenty of time to accomplish his goal.

Richard also hoped he could get Kyle to get a flattop without him having to get one too. He’d be willing to let Kyle cut his hair short, but he felt he was probably a little too old to make that dramatic a change. He figured he could get Kyle to understand his reasoning and that he would be okay with him not getting a flattop.

The first night they got home, they were just relaxing watching tv. Kyle didn’t see any point in wasting any time and said, "So, Dad, have you been thinking any more about getting the haircut we talked about me giving you when we got back? I hope you haven’t lost your nerve, because I really want to cut your hair the way we discussed. I think it will look so awesome."

"You said you really liked how my hair looked once you finished cutting it last week and you know your hair will end up looking exactly like mine," Kyle said. "You’re going to go for it and let me cut it aren’t you? It will really be a blast cutting your hair and having it look so much like mine. It’s definitely time for you to make a change in how you comb your hair."

"Practically all week, all I’ve thought about was if I really wanted to go ahead and get such a short haircut," Richard said. "I know I said that I thought I might, but I’ve changed my mind probably every single day. I’m still not sure what I want to do. I know how much you really want to cut so much of my hair off, but I’m not certain if it will look good or not," Richard said.

"Oh, come on, Dad! It’s summer. Most guys get their hair cut shorter in the summer. When fall rolls around you can start growing it longer again. We’re only talking two inches. It’s not that big a deal. It’ll take about four months to have your hair be as long again as it is right now."

"Remember how you said that cutting my hair made you realize that you should change the way you wear your hair? I can’t believe that you might not go through with this after you seemed you were really looking forward to making a change. I’m amazed that you are so afraid to have me take just two inches of your hair off!"

"If you don’t do it now, when will you ever get up the nerve to do it? Please, Dad! I’ll have an awesome time giving you a new looking haircut. You said that you have worn your hair the same way for over ten years. You know it’s definitely time for a change. Don’t back out. I think it will be fantastic seeing you with a different looking haircut. You’ve got such spectacular looking hair that I know it will look really great after I cut it."

"Oh, all right. Go ahead and do it before I change my mind," Richard said. "No time like the present," Kyle replied. "You get yourself comfortable in that chair there and I’ll go and get my barber kit." Kyle was so psyched that he was going to do this. He was going to cut off more of his father’s hair than he had probably ever had cut off at one time in over a decade. He knew it had been at least that long since Richard’s hair had been that short.

Kyle got out his video camera so he could tape the entire haircut. "Okay, Dad, the first thing I want you to do is comb your hair so that it looks the best it can. I’m then going to take some head shots so that we will have before and after pictures of your hair."

"Take your time and enjoy combing your awesome hair one last time because it’s going to be awhile before you get to comb it this way again. I bet once you’re used to the new haircut, that you’ll really like it and will have a lot of fun combing it a lot of different ways."

Richard combed his hair, thinking to himself, "I can’t believe I’m going to do this. I really like my hair when it is long like it is right now. It feels awesome brushing it all back and running my fingers through the top and seeing my locks fall wherever they do. I love how different I can get the top to look just by how I run my hands through it. I have so many people tell me how great my hair looks, and here I am, getting ready to lose most of it! I must be out of my mind!"

Richard finished combing his hair, knowing that he was really going to miss it. He sat down in the chair and Kyle took pictures from all different angles. Man, his dad’s hair really was awesome. It was going to be great seeing him look so different.

Kyle caped Richard up and then ran his hands all through his hair. He then took out his comb and combed his hair all up and back. He wanted to remember how awesome it felt doing that. Kyle thought Richard would probably relax a little more if he started with the scissors, and just cut the sides down a little at a time.

Kyle also remembered how stunned he had been when just last week, Richard, without any warning, chopped off over four inches of his hair. It had been a long time since he had so much hair cut off. He was mesmerized watching in the mirror as his father cut off so much of his hair.

He thought to himself that Richard should get to experience how it felt being on the receiving end of a surprise. He placed his hand on top of Richard’s head, forcing it downward a bit. He then quickly put the clippers at the base of his neck, and using a #2 guard, ran them about half way up to the crown. It was obvious that Richard was really startled by Kyle first using the clippers.

Kyle was pealing about two inches of his hair off the back. Richard had not had clippers take off that much of his hair in years. He was going to get to experience what his hair was going to feel like being buzzed down almost to stubble. "Kyle, are you sure you know what you’re doing?" Richard asked. "It sure feels like a lot of hair is coming off and you’ve just started."

"Don’t worry, Dad, I’m just taking the back and the sides down first." Kyle then placed the clippers at the base of Richard’s sideburn and ran them up to about three fingers above the top of his ears. Two inch locks of Richard’s beautiful dark brown hair were falling down onto his shoulders and then onto his lap. Kyle was really enjoying watching in the mirror and seeing how panicked his father looked. Richard always appeared to be in complete control, but he certainly wasn’t looking like that at the moment!

"Oh my God, Kyle! Are you sure you know what you’re doing? I can’t remember ever having so much hair being cut off all at one time. It feels like I’m going to be practically bald!" Richard said.

"Relax, Dad. I’m cutting your hair exactly how we discussed cutting it. Just look at mine and you can see how your hair is going to look. It’ll be fine. You’re going to really look great."

Once Kyle finished with the clippers on the back and sides, he slightly wet Richard’s hair and brushed it all up and back the way Richard always did. His hair was over four inches long on top. With his hair being so thick and standing up as high as it did, it really looked wild with the sides being so short.

Kyle was going to miss getting his hands in his Dad’s pretty hair. He had just started getting to play with it and now most of it was going to be gone. It was going to look really good though, and Kyle knew there would now be many times when they would cut each other’s hair.

Kyle then switched to the scissors. He combed up Richard’s amazing forelock and chopped off more than two inches, making certain that the beautiful lock fell onto his lap. As he worked his way to the back, he made certain that all the hair he kept cutting off, continued to fall onto Richard’s lap. He really wanted Richard to feel shell shocked as he saw how large a pile of his hair there was starting to be on the cape and knowing that Kyle had not even started cutting the top yet.

Kyle wet Richard’s hair one last time, blow dried it, and then ran his hands over and over again through the top, letting the remaining locks fall wherever they did. He was really pleased with how the haircut had turned out. It was actually a shorter version of how Richard wore his hair, but the sides being almost completely buzzed off really made a difference in how it looked. Kyle thought Richard looked much younger with a shorter, more contemporary looking haircut and he hoped his dad was going to like it.

Richard was really pleased with the haircut. He loved how Kyle had taken down the sides. It really was a great look for the summer. He felt energized, and he thought that the way his hair looked before Kyle had cut it, now looked so outdated. He loved that he was now sporting a new, more trendy looking haircut.

He wished he had cut his hair shorter years ago. He knew that Kyle was definitely going to be his barber from now on. He also knew that soon he would be getting Kyle to sit in the chair again and he would get to give him another haircut.

Kyle then took dozens of pictures. When he finished he began gathering up his hair cutting tools. Richard surprised him and said, "Now with my hair being shorter, I’d like to comb your hair again and see if I can get our hair to look even more the same. I’d then like to take pictures of the two of us standing together, showing off our matching looking haircuts. I promise you there will be no be surprises and that I will not cut your hair."

"Sure, Dad, I think that would be great. It really is awesome seeing us with the same looking haircut. This is the first time that we’ve done this, but I doubt it will be the last. Go ahead and see if you can comb my hair the same way you comb yours. I’ve always admired how your hair looks and I’d really like it if you could get my hair, especially on top, to look the way your hair does," Kyle said.

As much as Richard would have liked to cut Kyle’s hair, he was extremely happy finally getting his hands in his mane and combing it. He had waited so long to get to do this. He wished he had known all along that Kyle was into great hair just as much as he was. He was glad that Kyle went to college only about thirty minutes away. He hoped he would be coming home a lot more often so they could get to play with each other’s great hair.

While Richard was combing Kyle’s hair, Kyle said, "You know, Dad, after we talked last week, I got to wondering if you had ever given anyone a flattop before? Do you really know how to cut one or were you just having fun teasing me and telling me how much you would enjoy cutting almost all my hair off and giving me a flattop?"

"As much as I was enjoying teasing you, when I was in college, a flattop was a very popular haircut," Richard said. "I’ll bet that probably nearly half the haircuts I gave were flattops. It was my favorite haircut to cut, especially if the guy had great hair and was getting one for the very first time. The longer his hair was, the more I enjoyed cutting it."

"What got you thinking so much about flattops?" Richard asked as he continued to comb Kyle’s hair. "Thinking about getting one?" he laughed. "I would absolutely love to give you a flattop. You just say the word and I’ll start up my clippers. It would be a fantastic rush cutting nearly all your pretty hair off!"

"I know you’re just teasing me now and that you aren’t really serious," Richard said. "I don’t believe even for one moment that you would ever think about really getting a flattop. I know how much you love that hair of yours. It really is fantastic looking."

"I bet that you have never even once thought about cutting your pretty hair so short. I doubt the idea of getting a flattop has ever entered your mind," Richard said. "It would be sensational if sometime you do decide to go for it and actually let me give you a flattop. I think it would definitely be a really intense time for the both of us. It would be super wild getting to do it!"

"Our talking really did get me thinking that while I’m in college that I should try cutting my hair several different ways though, and you got me thinking that maybe I will try a flattop sometime," Kyle said. "You said you thought that when a guy was young that he should at least grow his hair long one time, and then another time do the complete opposite, and cut his hair really short. It would be interesting seeing which way I thought my hair looked the best. Going from one extreme to another would be a pretty wild experience."

"I remember you saying that you thought a flattop showed off a guy’s hair better than any other short haircut. I think that maybe I really will get a flattop sometime. Instead of never getting a flattop, and always wondering how I would have looked if I had gotten one, I think there might come a time when I do decide to get one. I’d like to see how I would look with a flattop. The thought of getting one kind of scares me, but I think it would be exciting too."

"This is the shortest my hair has been in years. It got me thinking that I would not have to get very much more hair cut off if I wanted to get a flattop with my hair as short as it is now. If I ever do decide to get a flattop, I know I wouldn’t want a short, military looking one, but one that’s a bit longer," Kyle said. He then pulled out his wallet and to Richard’s surprise, took out a photo that showed a guy with a great looking flattop.

"I found this picture and I really like this guy’s flattop," Kyle said. "I think his hair on top is slightly under an inch and the top is standing up perfectly straight and it’s as flat as a board. I like that the front is just a little longer so that it just brushes back. I also like that the sides and back aren’t showing any skin. I guess because his hair is so thick and looks like it has such great body, that as it gets nearer the top, his hair on the sides and back stands straight out, making the sides and back perfectly square. I think that it looks really sharp."

Richard began thinking that Kyle might be seriously considering one day to get a flattop. He felt that all he needed was a little encouragement to do it. Maybe a time would come when Richard was cutting his hair that Kyle would say that he wanted him to give him a flattop. It would be so awesome getting to do that.

Richard just had to be patient. He knew that with time, he could bring up some ideas, make some suggestions, and tell Kyle how good he would look with a flattop. He knew he could start by telling him that he would have no problem cutting his hair to look like the guy in the picture and that he thought his hair would look really great.

"Do you think I have the right type of hair for a flattop? Tell me the truth, do you honestly think it would look good if I got one?" Kyle asked his dad. "If I ever did tell you to go ahead and give me a flattop, do you think you could cut it to look like the guy in the picture? I bet it’s been a lot of years since you last cut a flattop. Being out of practice cutting one, do you think you could still do a good job? I bet you’d love to give me a flattop right now, wouldn’t you?"

Richard had the biggest smile on his face. He thought since Kyle had just said that he knew how much Richard would love to right now go ahead and give him a flattop, he felt fairly certain he could give him the little push that he needed to get one. It was obvious that he really was tempted and wanted to get one. It would be awesome getting to give him a flattop right now because it was so unexpected.

"Kyle, I honestly think you would look fantastic if you ever got a flattop, and I’m not just saying that because I would so love to give you one. Your hair is perfect for a flattop. It’s so thick and straight and has such great body that it stands up so easily that I’m positive it will look really sharp. I’m not worried about cutting it at all. I know that I could do a fantastic job."

"If you’re serious about getting a flattop, there really couldn’t be a better time than right now for you to get one. With your hair as short as it is, you’re right, it would be the least amount of hair you would ever have to get cut off to have a flattop."

"If your hair was really long on top, it would definitely be a more intense haircut to get. Doing it now won’t be that big a deal seeing that I would only be taking about an inch off the top. I would have to take practically nothing off the sides and back, I’d just need to square them up. You won’t believe how different you will look by just having such a small amount of hair cut off."

"I’m so positive that it will look really awesome that I bet you’ll keep it for the entire summer. Once you get used to seeing yourself looking so different, I think you’ll really love it. If you immediately decided to start growing it back out, you’d have two months before you headed back to college. It would then be an inch longer, and it would be just about the same length it is right now."

"I’m so amazed that you have actually been considering getting a flattop. Are you really sure you want to do that? Maybe you should think about it for a few days. As much as I would love to cut it, I don’t want you to do anything that you will regret," Richard said.

"I want you to cut it right now!" Kyle said. "Come on, Dad. Give me the best looking flattop that you can! I’m really stoked to see you give me one! I wish my hair was as long as it was when you cut it last week. It would have been more fun getting to see so much hair coming off, especially all the blonde hair."

"Having you take four inches off the top has made me no longer afraid about cutting my hair shorter. I’m not at all worried about having you taking it down another inch," Kyle said. "I can’t wait to see how it will look. Who knows? If I like it, I may have you give me a flattop at the beginning of every summer."

"Let’s go and wash your hair first and then blow dry it to get it to stand up as high as possible. Then I’m going to cape you up and sit you in front of the mirror so you can watch your hair being cut totally different than it has ever been cut before," Richard said. "I never imagined that I would ever get to give you a flattop! I can’t wait to do this. It is going to be absolutely mind blowing!"

Richard then washed and dried Kyle’s hair. Even though it was only two inches long, because his hair was so thick, it stood up really high on the top of his head. He was really charged up getting to do this, and he started aggressively brushing his hair back. He loved seeing his son’s thick, beautiful hair stand up so well.

All he really had to do to the sides and back was square them up near the top. Kyle’s hair stood perfectly straight outward, making it really easy to give him a perfectly square, boxy looking flattop. After he finished squaring up the sides and back, all that was left to do was to flatten out the top. It had probably been nearly twenty years since Richard had cut a flattop, but he was confident that he would a great job. He was so stoked that he was getting to do this.

He took his wide tooth comb and lifted up Kyle’s two inch forelock and placed the comb about half way up in his hair and took the clippers and buzzed off all the hair that was standing above the comb. His hair in front he left a little longer like Kyle had requested. The rest of his hair on top he cut down so that it was just under an inch. It was such a rush buzzing down the top of his hair, even if he was only taking off a little bit.

He then began the most important part of the haircut, making certain that the top was really flat. When cutting a flattop, this was the part he actually enjoyed doing the most. You had to have a good eye and a steady hand in order to cut a really good flattop. He really went to work, making certain the top, sides, and back were perfectly squared up from every which way you looked at his hair.

When he finished polishing up the flattop, he took some pomade and ran it through Kyle’s hair. He then brushed it from every direction possible. He loved how it looked. He took a ruler and placed it on the top of Kyle’s hair and it laid perfectly flat. Richard thought that this was probably one of the best flattops he had ever cut. Of course, Kyle having such fantastic hair definitely helped.

When Richard finished the haircut he was so happy that it had turned out so well. Kyle was a real natural for a flattop. He really did look great. "I can’t believe I actually got a flattop, but I love it!" Kyle said. "It was a blast watching you cut it."

"I think that maybe sometime I will let my hair grow long and then have you give me another flattop. It would be a lot more intense seeing maybe six inches of my hair being cut off, instead of just one. You’d really be happy if I did that, wouldn’t you?" Kyle said with a huge smile on his face.

"I think that would be awesome," Richard said. "I’m glad that you like the flattop and I hope that over time, I’ll be giving you a few more. It really does look fantastic!"

"You know, Dad, last week we talked about us each getting the same looking haircut every once in a while. I just want you to know that I don’t expect you to get a flattop because I got one. I’ll be happy just cutting your hair as short as it is now. In the fall, I definitely want you to grow your hair longer so that I can have a lot more fun combing it for you."

"I really appreciate that, Kyle. Who knows though, maybe one day on the spur of the moment, I will have you give me a flattop, too. If my hair is as short as it is now, I would only have to take an inch off, like I just did to yours. What’s an inch? Two months to grow it back Big deal!" Richard said.

"Who knows, maybe one day I just might surprise you and tell you to go for it! Go ahead and cut off most of my pretty hair! You’d also like to do that wouldn’t you?" Richard said. "I don’t want you to ever surprise me and give me a flattop without asking my permission though. I think we both need to agree that there will be no surprise haircuts given from now on."

"This has turned out so great! I think I’ll need to come home a lot more often to have you cut my hair. I think the same thing probably applies to you as well," Kyle said. "I know I’m really going to enjoy having you cut it as I grow it long again. It will be a blast seeing how you think it will look best."

"I’ll even let you be the one to determine how you want to cut it. I really like the idea of seeing what you would do with my hair as it gets longer. A lot of times when we get together there probably won’t be any haircutting at all, just brushing and combing each other’s hair. That will still be a lot of fun to do."

"I hope we keep our hair short over the summer and then start growing our hair long again. Once we start growing it longer, it will be fun seeing the different ways we will comb each other’s hair. I want us both to have longer hair again because we will enjoy it so much more getting our hands in each other’s hair," Kyle said.

"I really hope you will grow your hair even longer than it was before I cut off the first inch. I have always wanted to run my hands through your hair and brush and comb it. I got to do that, but it was only for a short time. I’ll really enjoy burying my hands in your thick hair as you grow it out," Kyle said. "I think that from now on, we’re going to have some fantastic times getting to be the barber and playing with each other’s hair. I know that it’s really going to be great getting to do this from now on!"
