NEXT Part time at Hanks part 3 by Barbershop memmories

From the kitchen i could clearly hear what was being said in the shop as i made the tea for the Dad of the 2 boys, one of which,,, Peter, was now sat in Hanks chair looking quite solemn and a little nervous as Hank tucked a tissue in and around his neck under the maroon cape.

I put his mug of tea on the low table in front of him.

Thankyou very much son.

That's ok Sir,, all part of the service i said confidently with a smile.

As i turned and made my way back towards my stool, Hank stopped briefly from what he was doing and looked round at me as i walked passed him, smiled and gave a friendly nod and a wink.

You 3 just wait here while i bring the car round, won't be a minute, their Mum said to them.

Instead of sitting back down on what i hoped i could now regard as being, MY STOOL from now on, owing to the fact that it had the perfect vantage point, i sat on the bench accross from it right next to Jason who unlike his 2 very happy looking younger brothers sitting next to him on the opposite side of him to me was looking very sad indeed.

He had been the first one in the chair to get his head shaved by Hank with the 000 blades.

It was something i had never seen before, watching it was amazing and quite a thrill for me.

But now, seeing him sat there looking so forlorn and worried made me feel sad and quite guilty.

The least i can do is try and cheer him up, i thought to myself.

It' Peter isn't it,, you're in the year below me at school aren't you.

He looked at me and nodded.

Cheer up, it's not that bad i mean look at me, mine's been shaved with a razor and i'm not bothered, in fact i really like it.

I bet your'e only saying that cos he's your Dad and you have to have it like that.

I couldn't help laughing a little,, Hanks not my Dad,, i just came here for a haircut this morning,, this is exactly what i wanted and even better still, i've got a saturday job here, he's a really great barber you know,

But doesn't it bother you what the others say at school,

They only take the mick if they think it bothers you,
I tell em i like it like this, it's better than looking like a girl i say,,

The secret is to look happy and not bothered at all,, trust me.

Their Mum puuled up outside the shop and beeped the horn.

Jason now looking a bit happier stood up and walked towards the door with his 2 brothers.

Remember what i said i shouted over to him as they left the shop.
Hank again, looked over at me and winked after hearing what i'd said to Jason.
