Back to buzz by Derek Wendt

I had just come inside after doing some work for my father, and I went to the bathroom to wash my hands. I looked in the mirror and admired my now very shaggy hairstyle. for most of my life I had had a buzz cut and my hair never got longer than maybe 1 3/4". I guess at one point my parents became busier and started forgetting to take me to get buzz cuts. I now had mid-way down forehead length bangs, and my ears were halfway covered. I also had a large clump of hair sticking up on the left side of my head which my parents hated but I really liked. I felt it suited me real well. My parents had tried many times in the last few months to get me to the salon to get a buzz cut, but I always refused until they gave up. Eventually, after my hair had been growing out for around seven months, my parents got very fed up with how shaggy my hair looked and ordered me to get in the car to get a haircut. I wanted to refuse again but I could tell they mean't business this time so I got in the car and dreaded what I would look like in a few hours. When we got to the salon we were told to wait for a minute, making the pit in my stomach increase even more. Mom then told me I could have them leave some on, it just had to be noticeably shorter. This made me fell slightly better, but I didn't want to cut any of my hair. When the barber said she was ready for me I almost panicked, but walked to the chair anyway. My parents told her to give me a buzz cut, and then told me they were leaving to get groceries and I would have to walk home. As the barber prepared my clippers, I said that it was okay with my parents if a little bit was left on and that I wanted her to leave a little bit hanging in the forehead and leave some sticking up in the back. She said okay and began cutting my hair with the clippers. I just kept my head down and watched the tufts of my hair float to the ground. She finished, and there was a bunch of my hair on the ground, and I was afraid to look in the mirror. when I did, I saw that she hadn't left any in the forehead and left like, thre tiny thin strands of hair sticking out in the back which you could barely see. I looked just like I used to, and I was very upset. After this I grew out my hair again and luckily convinced my parent to let me just get a few inches cut of instead of a buzz cut. So, lucky me.
